Job Description
Overview Motor City Equipment Care LLC provides commercial fitness equipment preventative maintenance and service for facilities across Metro Detroit. We are contracting with an independent Commercial Fitness Equipment Field Technician / Subcontractor (1099) to perform routine preventative maintenance (PM) visits and field diagnostics on a flexible, project-by-project basis. This is a 1099 subcontractor position offering flat-rate per-facility payouts for PMs ($120-$250/visit depending on facility size) and hourly rates ($35-$50/hr) for diagnostic and repair work orders. Duties Execute complete preventative maintenance checklists on commercial cardio equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, rowers) and strength machinery (selectorized cable stacks, functional trainers, plate-loaded units). Clean, grease, lubricate, inspect, and adjust tension on drive belts, running decks, cables, and pulleys to OEM specifications. Perform electrical and mechanical diagnostics to troubleshoot console faults, motor controller issues, or bad wiring using multimeters and diagnostic tools. Identify critical safety hazards or worn components, apply red-tag lockout procedures, and notify facility management immediately. Submit completed digital service checklists, equipment photos, and serial number logs via mobile portal within 12 hours of job completion. Qualifications 1+ years of technical experience servicing commercial fitness equipment (Life Fitness, Precor, Matrix, Hammer Strength, Concept2, etc.) OR equivalent electro-mechanical / field service background (HVAC, small engine, industrial maintenance). Must operate as an Independent Contractor (1099) possessing your own reliable vehicle, standard hand tools, hex/socket sets, and a digital multimeter. Must possess or be willing to obtain General Liability Insurance ($1M/$2M aggregate) prior to starting assignments. Strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and professional communication skills on client sites.
