Job Description

  • Job Title: Ground Support Equipment Mechanic 1st Shift
  • Job Description
  • This role focuses on diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing aircraft ground support equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation on the ramp.

You will perform complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic repairs, complete accurate service documentation, and support ongoing maintenance programs. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with strong potential for long-term employment based on performance and attitude.

  • Responsibilities
  • + Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment failures on aircraft ground support equipment.

+ Perform complex diagnostics, service repairs, and maintenance work on customer-owned and company-owned ground support equipment.

+ Identify and repair engine mechanical issues on diesel, gasoline, and LP-powered equipment.

+ Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems on ground support equipment using appropriate schematics.

+ Diagnose and repair hydraulic systems, including pumps, lines, and actuators used in ground support operations.

+ Troubleshoot and repair pneumatic start systems and related components using necessary schematics.

+ Use diagnostic software to troubleshoot and resolve issues with Powertrain Management Systems.

+ Perform preventive maintenance services, including inspections, lubrication, fluid changes, and adjustments to extend equipment life and reduce downtime.

+ Complete vehicle repair orders and all related documentation accurately and thoroughly to maintain quality and compliance standards.

+ Communicate safety concerns, equipment condition issues, and customer service requests clearly and promptly to management.

+ Follow all safety procedures and company policies while working in an active airport environment.

  • Essential Skills
  • + At least 2 years of experience in automotive or heavy equipment maintenance, including hands-on repair and service work.

+ Proven experience working with ground support equipment or similar heavy equipment.

+ Strong ability to diagnose and repair diesel, gasoline, and LP engines.

+ Hands-on experience with preventive maintenance, including lubrication, inspections, and routine service.

+ Ability to troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems on heavy or ground support equipment.

  • Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • + Technical certification or diploma in automotive, diesel, heavy equipment, or related field preferred.

+ ASE certification preferred.

+ Experience as a lube technician or diesel technician is highly beneficial.

+ Experience performing preventive maintenance programs on fleets of vehicles or equipment.

+ Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

  • Work Environment
  • This position is based in an active airport environment working directly with aircraft ground support equipment.

The role operates on a 1st shift schedule, typically from 5:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with overtime possible but not guaranteed. You will work in and around ramps, hangars, and service areas where equipment is in constant use, requiring strong attention to safety and situational awareness. Standard hand tools are required as part of your personal tool set, while power tools are provided on site. The environment involves exposure to noise, moving vehicles and equipment, and varying weather conditions depending on the airport layout. Work is hands-on and physically active, focused on maintaining and repairing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on ground support equipment.

  • Pay and Benefits
  • The pay range for this position is $27.

00 - $34.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
