111 MOTOR
EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
(LIGHT)
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
One (1) year of full-time paid, or its part-time equivalent, experience in the operation of motor equipment.
SUBSTITUTION - EXPERIENCE
Possession of vocational or technical certification, or higher, in Conservation, Heavy Equipment Operation or Diesel Technology/Power Mechanics may substitute for the one (1) year of paid experience
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - FOR APPOINTMENT
Possession of an appropriate New York State Operator's license at the time of appointment, and maintenance of such license throughout the tenure of employment in the position.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
The work involves responsibility for the safe efficient operation and care of a variety of equipment generally involving public works projects. Employees in this class will be required to perform a variety of laboring and helper duties. Work is performed under general supervision; does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
(Illustrative only) Operates a variety of automotive equipment such as trucks, rollers, street sweepers, payloaders, bulldozers; Operates a tractor mower cutting grass and brush from roadsides and other public areas; Operates a variety of equipment in public works department such as sewer machine, compressor, post diggers; Collects recyclables from schools, institutions, town hall programs and municipalities. Curbside collection of other recyclables or yard waste; May, on occasion, operate heavy motor equipment; Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks as a helper to masons, carpenters and automotive mechanics; Delivers food and miscellaneous supplies to such places as schools; Performs a variety of simple laboring tasks; May be required to clean and oil his equipment.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Good knowledge of the operation of automotive equipment and public works equipment; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written instructions; industry; dependability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
