Mechanic II Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities Are you an experienced mechanic who enjoys diagnosing and repairing everything from passenger vehicles to heavy-duty diesel equipment? Chautauqua County is seeking a skilled Mechanic II to help keep our fleet operating safely and efficiently. As a Mechanic II, you'll perform advanced diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a variety of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and heavy equipment while working independently with minimal supervision. What You'll Do Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine issues using modern diagnostic equipment. Perform repairs and complete overhauls on light-duty vehicles, heavy trucks, construction equipment, and diesel-powered machinery. Conduct preventative maintenance, inspections, and scheduled service to maximize fleet reliability. Perform New York State safety and emissions inspections. Repair and service braking, steering, suspension, hydraulic, fuel, cooling, electrical, and drivetrain systems. Complete minor welding repairs as needed. Install and remove snowplows and other seasonal equipment. Service automotive air conditioning systems. Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records. Assist with routine buildings and grounds maintenance when assigned. Operate County vehicles and equipment as necessary. Successful candidates will have:

Thorough knowledge of automotive and heavy equipment repair techniques. Experience repairing gasoline and diesel-powered equipment. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities. Familiarity with hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems. Welding experience is a plus. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple repairs. Excellent hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and physical stamina. Minimum Qualifications Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and meet one of the following: Completion of a two-year post-secondary Heavy Diesel Equipment Technician program; OR Completion of a two-year Automotive Technology program plus one (1) year of skilled experience repairing heavy-duty gasoline or diesel equipment used in construction, farming, or commercial fleet operations; OR Two (2) years of skilled heavy equipment automotive mechanic experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty gasoline or diesel equipment. Experience performing only routine maintenance or minor repairs is not considered qualifying experience. License & Certification Requirements When assigned to the Chautauqua County Department of Public Facilities, candidates must: Possess a valid New York State Class D Driver License at the time of appointment. Obtain the required Commercial Driver License (CDL) and endorsements for the assigned division within six (6) months of appointment (or before completion of probation, whichever occurs first):

Class B CDL with Passenger ("P") Endorsement and Air Brakes Provide their own mechanic tools. Obtain New York State Motor Vehicle Inspector Certification within 12 months of appointment. Obtain EPA Section 609 (42 U.S.C. §7671h) certification for servicing motor vehicle air conditioning systems within 12 months of appointment.

$25.91 - $33.71 per hour
