Position Summary The Heavy Equipment & Dredge Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on heavy construction equipment, dredges, dredging systems, and related support equipment. This position requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine knowledge to maintain equipment in a safe and reliable operating condition. Work will be performed at project sites located throughout Texas and Louisiana . Essential Responsibilities Diagnose equipment failures and perform repairs on company-owned heavy construction equipment, dredges, and support equipment. Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on heavy equipment, dredges, pumps, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, power trains, and related components. Maintain a working knowledge of dredges, dredging systems, pumps, hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and associated mechanical equipment. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic systems. Utilize diagnostic software, laptop computers, gauges, and testing equipment to identify equipment failures. Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment. Read and interpret equipment manuals, hydraulic schematics, electrical diagrams, and work orders. Perform occasional welding and fabrication repairs as required. Operate heavy equipment as necessary to diagnose problems, verify repairs, or move equipment safely. Research repair requirements and order replacement parts when needed. Load and unload equipment and components from transport vehicles. Maintain accurate service, maintenance, repair, and inspection records. Respond to field service requests and coordinate repairs to minimize equipment downtime. Assist with scheduling repairs, determining labor and material requirements, and coordinating equipment transportation when necessary. Monitor work areas to ensure compliance with OSHA, MSHA, and company safety standards. Investigate equipment failures, accidents, and safety incidents as assigned. Maintain operational, maintenance, inventory, and production records. Perform all other duties as assigned. Qualifications Three to seven years of experience diagnosing and repairing heavy construction equipment; Caterpillar equipment experience preferred. Working knowledge of dredges and dredging equipment required. Experience performing mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on heavy equipment and dredging systems. Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, power trains, pumps, and mechanical components. Experience using diagnostic software, laptop computers, gauges, and electronic testing equipment. Ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues. Knowledge of heavy construction, mining, or dredging equipment preferred. Basic welding and fabrication skills. Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical schematics. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business software. MSHA certification or ability to obtain certification. OSHA 30 certification preferred. EPA Section 609 Certification or ability to obtain certification. CDL preferred. Ability to work independently while maintaining a high level of quality and safety. Must maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times. Work Location All work will be performed at project sites throughout Texas and Louisiana . Travel between job sites may be required. Physical Requirements The successful candidate must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position, including: Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, and work in confined spaces. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold. Work around oils, grease, dirt, noise, dust, and moving equipment.
