We provide field and shop repair services throughout a large service area across the Pacific Northwest. Since 1984, BHER has built its reputation on quality workmanship, dependable service, and taking care of our customers. We are looking for an experienced Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic who takes pride in their work, can troubleshoot challenging problems, and is comfortable working independently in the field. This is a hands-on position for an experienced mechanic who knows heavy equipment and can diagnose the problem, make the repair, and communicate professionally with the customer. This position is based in Lexington, Oregon. Relocation to the area is required. Position Summary The Heavy Equipment Field Service Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining heavy construction, agricultural, and utility equipment at customer locations and in our shop. Field mechanics operate a company service truck and are expected to work independently while representing BHER professionally at customer locations. This is a full-time, year-round position with overtime opportunities, an on-call rotation, and occasional overnight travel. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, powertrains, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, and electronic controls. Perform field and shop repairs on heavy construction, agricultural, and utility equipment. Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, and failure analysis. Use OEM diagnostic software and electronic service information, including CAT Electronic Technician (ET), Caterpillar SIS, Modis , and other diagnostic platforms. Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical schematics. Accurately diagnose failures and identify parts required for repairs. Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining BHER's quality and safety standards. Communicate directly and professionally with customers regarding equipment condition, recommended repairs, and job progress. Complete work orders, service reports, labor entries, and other required documentation electronically and in a timely manner. Maintain a clean, organized, stocked, and safe service truck. Properly maintain company tools and equipment. Follow company safety procedures and applicable DOT requirements. Represent BHER professionally while providing dependable customer service. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of diesel mechanic experience . Previous heavy equipment repair experience . Previous field service experience preferred. Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, powertrains, and electronic diagnostics. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to communicate professionally with customers, coworkers, and management. Basic computer skills, including email and electronic service documentation. Must provide personal mechanic hand tools. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. CDL or ability to obtain a CDL. Must be willing to relocate to the Lexington, Oregon area . Preferred Qualifications CDL with air brake endorsement. Vocational or technical school training in diesel or heavy equipment repair. Associate degree in Diesel Technology or a related field. Experience repairing Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, Case, Volvo, Hitachi, and other heavy equipment brands. Experience with air conditioning diagnostics and repair. Experience with OEM diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting. Physical & Work Requirements This is a physically demanding field position.

Applicants must be able to:

Lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Stand, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, and work in confined areas. Safely climb on and around heavy equipment. Work outdoors in varying weather and jobsite conditions. Safely operate service vehicles and equipment. Travel to customer jobsites throughout our service area. Occasionally stay overnight for out-of-town service calls. Work overtime and occasional weekends when customer needs require it. Compensation $30.00-$55.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Overtime opportunities are available.
