POSITION SUMMARY

As our Yard Repair Mechanic, you'll keep our fleet of small tools, temporary power equipment, and jobsite radios in top working condition — repairing, testing, and maintaining equipment before it heads out to job sites and after it comes back. This is a hands-on role for someone who likes variety, works well independently, and takes ownership of getting equipment right.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Small Tool & Equipment Repair Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair small construction tools and equipment, including compactors, cut-off saws, concrete equipment, pumps, generators, and electric-powered hand tools. Perform routine preventive maintenance (oil changes, filters, spark plugs, blades, belts, hydraulic fluid) on small equipment before and after rental use. Inspect returned equipment for damage, missing parts, or safety issues, and complete repairs or flag for replacement as needed. Test-run repaired equipment to confirm proper operation before it is returned to available inventory. Temporary Power Equipment Inspect, service, and repair temporary power equipment such as generators, distribution panels, cable, transformers, and light towers. Perform basic electrical diagnostics and repairs on temp power equipment, following manufacturer specifications and safety procedures. Load-test and function-test generators and distribution equipment prior to jobsite deployment. Identify and escalate equipment requiring specialized electrical repair beyond shop scope. Jobsite Radio Programming Program, configure, and test two-way jobsite radios (e.g., Motorola, Kenwood) with correct channels, frequencies, and settings for each project. Maintain an inventory of radios, chargers, and accessories, and troubleshoot radio malfunctions. Coordinate with project teams to confirm radio programming meets jobsite communication requirements before deployment. Yard & Shop Operations Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard, including proper storage of tools, parts, and equipment. Track repairs, parts usage, and labor hours in the company's fleet/maintenance management system. Order and maintain inventory of common repair parts, consumables, and shop supplies. Assist with loading, unloading, and staging equipment for jobsite delivery and pickup as needed. Follow all safety procedures and comply with OSHA and company safety standards; report unsafe conditions promptly. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Yard/Shop Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED required; technical/vocational training in small engine repair, electrical, or a related field is a plus. 2+ years of hands-on experience repairing power tools, or construction equipment preferred. Working knowledge of temporary power equipment (generators, distribution panels, cable) preferred; willing to train the right candidate. Experience programming two-way radios is a plus; training will be provided. Basic understanding of electrical systems and safe work practices around electrical equipment. Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and a safety-first mindset. Ability to work independently, prioritize repairs, and meet jobsite turnaround deadlines.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Regularly lift and carry equipment and parts up to 50 lbs; occasionally up to 75 lbs with assistance. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods.
