General Mechanic County Waste Service - 3.6 Abilene, TX Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance 401(k) matching Life insurance Qualifications Computer operation High school diploma or GED Driver's License Documentation tools Computer skills Full Job Description Job Purpose The General Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and related systems on trucks, heavy equipment, and fleet vehicles to ensure optimal performance and safety. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship. Duties and Responsibilities Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs on vehicles, machinery, and mechanical equipment. Inspect mechanical systems to identify wear, damage, or safety issues. Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic malfunctions using tools and diagnostic equipment. Repair or replace faulty components such as brakes, belts, bearings, engines, transmissions, and pumps. Conduct oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication services, and other preventive maintenance tasks. Maintain service records, work orders, and inventory logs accurately. Adhere to safety procedures and maintain clean, organized work areas. Communicate repair needs and timelines to supervisors and team members. Use hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment safely and effectively. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent At least two years of experience in mechanical repair or maintenance (automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial preferred). Valid driver's license Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Basic computer skills for documentation and diagnostics. Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional overtime or weekends.
Qualifications Qualifications include:
Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Familiarity with safety standards and OSHA regulations. Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
