8 Hours Per Week Benefits Help for . Under the supervision of the Frio County Shop Foreman, and the Road & Bridge Administrator, the RoadTechnician II/Mechanic, will perform general mechanical work on Road & Bridge equipment at thePearsall garage and on the road when necessary. Assures all PMIs are performed on equipment; keeps
all required documentation for the individual pieces of equipment; and orders required parts and keepsparts inventory.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED
5 years experience in automotive, mechanical, or equipment repair or related field, or an equivalentcombination of education and related experience
Valid Texas Drivers License - Class C (Class B preferred)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Schedules PMIs for all Road & Bridge equipment. Performs PMIs when necessary.
Performs repairs on all Road & Bridge equipment, including rebuilding major components such asengines and transmissions, in the Pearsall garage or on the road. If additional skills are required forthe repairs, coordinates with appropriate vendor.
Orders all necessary parts for repairs of the Road and Bridge equipment and maintains thedocumentation for the parts and repairs. Also maintains and documents an inventory for thenormal PMIs.
Performs on call road service maintenance and repair work as necessary.
Regular and punctual attendance is required.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Requires considerable knowledge of the standard accepted practices for welding and fabricationwork.
Requires considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions ofautomotive/diesel equipment repair, welding work and large scale shop operations.
Requires general knowledge of the principles of internal combustion engines and hydraulic systems
Requires working knowledge of various grades, quality standards, and sources of supply and pricetrends for a variety of automotive parts, supplies, goods and services.
Requires skills in the use and care of tools, equipment, and materials used in the maintenance andrepair of automotive and related equipment.
Requires the ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in detecting malfunctions and insolving mechanical problems.
Requires the ability to prepare and maintain simple records
Requires the ability to be accountable for inventory/property management.
Requires the ability to use office equipment, including copy machines or multi-line telephonesystems.
Requires the ability to use computers for data entry, software to detect malfunctions in heavyequipment/machinery.
Requires the ability to use or repair light to heavy equipment/machinery, such as vehicles, powertools, or commercial mowers.
Requires the ability to make recommendations that impact the budget.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge in using small office equipment, including but not limited to computers, printers,copy machines, and multi-line telephone systems
Knowledge of computers and office software including : Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to operate motor vehicles, including but not limited to light pickup trucks
Must be able to operate a variety of heavy machinery and equipment
Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of forcefrequently, and up to 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Position requires lifting, carrying heavy loads, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing,reaching or stretching arms, legs, or other parts of the body to physically maneuver over orupon varying terrain, surfaces, or physical structures or in tight spaces.
Position requires the ability to see, hear, and speak in English.
WORK HOURS, BENEFITS, AND OTHER WORK-RELATED INFORMATION
- Work hours and benefits have been established by the Frio County Handbook, Section 2, EmployeeCompensation and Benefits. The normal work hours of Frio County shall be from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30p.m., Monday through Friday, unless otherwise directed by the Department Head. The Department
- Head shall determine the exact work schedules for their employees in order to meet the needs of theCounty.
- Employees may be required to work a schedule that varies from the normal work schedule or they maybe subject to call back in-case of emergency or special need. Work afterhours and on weekends arerequired. Work may be required on holidays in order to meet the needs of the County.
Travel is required for this position. Work locations will vary from day-to-day and will primarily be locatedthroughout the County. Employees will be exposed to heavy machinery, excessive noises, hazardouschemicals, and all types of weather, varying from mild to inclement weather. Employees will also work
in a general office environment.
