Experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Full-Time | 40 Hours/Week + Overtime - Winchester, VA We are looking for an experienced heavy equipment mechanic to join our team at our scrap metal processing facility in Winchester, VA. This is a hands-on position working with a large and diverse equipment fleet , including skid steers, wheel loaders, excavators, and specialized scrap-processing and material-handling equipment. Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel-powered heavy equipment Perform preventative maintenance and inspections Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and diesel systems Work on a fleet of 30+ pieces of heavy equipment and specialized scrap material-handling machinery Respond to equipment breakdowns and prioritize repairs to keep production moving Maintain accurate maintenance records, service logs, and repair documentation Help schedule and prioritize maintenance work Assign maintenance tasks and coordinate work when appropriate Monitor equipment condition and identify potential problems before they become major repairs Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop/work area Follow all company safety procedures and promote a strong safety culture Qualifications Significant professional experience working on diesel engines and heavy equipment required Strong mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diagnostic skills Experience with construction, industrial, waste, or scrap-processing equipment preferred Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and make sound repair decisions Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions Able to work in a fast-paced industrial/scrap yard environment Strong attention to safety and detail Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently Strong communication skills; Spanish-speaking/bilingual abilities are a plus Ability to handle basic leadership and managerial responsibilities, including maintenance logs, task assignment, and work prioritization Welding/fabrication experience or additional heavy equipment experience is a plus What We Offer $35-$50/hour based on experience and qualifications 40 hours per week Overtime available Paid time off Health, dental & vision insurance Stable, full-time employment Work on a wide variety of specialized heavy equipment Opportunity for increased responsibility and leadership within the maintenance department Hands-on work in a unique scrap-processing environment
