About the Role As a Freight Equipment Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and operational integrity of our rail fleet. You will utilize your mechanical expertise to diagnose, repair, and upgrade complex railcar components, ensuring all work meets rigorous industry safety and performance standards. Responsibilities Execute comprehensive repairs, modifications, and structural upgrades on various railcar types to maximize fleet availability. Perform precision mechanical work, including rebuilding bolsters, side framers, hitch heads, and door assemblies. Utilize advanced welding techniques, cutting torches, and fabrication skills to restore damaged equipment to operational status. Interpret complex blueprints and technical specifications to guide the maintenance and assembly of major car components. Operate industrial equipment, including forklifts and hoists, to safely position heavy parts for installation or repair. Maintain accurate repair logs and equipment status updates through electronic management systems. Conduct thorough visual and diagnostic inspections to identify mechanical issues and prevent potential service failures. Qualifications Required Skills Proven mechanical aptitude with experience in heavy equipment or industrial maintenance. Proficiency in welding, metal fabrication, and the use of cutting torches. Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints and precision measuring instruments. Strong commitment to safety protocols and the ability to work in diverse environmental conditions. Preferred Skills Prior experience in railcar maintenance or similar heavy-duty mechanical environments. Familiarity with AAR, FRA, or related industry regulatory standards.
