They must know how to connect water or gas lines, and how to check for leaks once the appliances are installed. They instruct their customers on how to operate the appliances properly. Repair technicians must repair or replace any defective components found in appliances. They must know how to dismantle and reassemble appliances to make their diagnosis. Other job duties may include record keeping, bill preparation, repair estimates and inventory control. Appliance repair technicians must also have good customer service skills and a clean driver's license record. Essential Skills An appliance technician should have at least some of the following essential skills: Should have technical aptitude and should be updated with latest developments in the related field Should have a good manual dexterity, as they need to handle different kinds of tools and deal with the repairing of various minute components simultaneously Should be detail oriented and be able to accurately identify the problems associated with it Should be able to maintain accurate records of the repairs, number of working hours, and the invoices generated for the repairs Should be customer oriented and have excellent communication skills to be able to explain complexities to the customers who have little or no knowledge about the technical specifications
