Job Description

Position Summary The Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and servicing residential and light commercial HVAC systems according to Banner Air standards. The position is expected to provide professional service, accurate diagnosis, clear communication, quality workmanship, complete documentation, and appropriate repair or replacement options. Career level is based on demonstrated technical ability, independence, judgment, customer-service skills, documentation, reliability, quality, and ability to support others. Advancement is based on demonstrated competency and responsibility rather than tenure alone. HVAC Service and Diagnosis Perform scheduled maintenance and service on residential and light commercial HVAC equipment. Diagnose heating, cooling, airflow, electrical, refrigeration, control, and system-performance problems within demonstrated skill level. Use appropriate diagnostic tools and testing equipment and interpret wiring diagrams and equipment documentation. Identify root causes rather than relying unnecessarily on parts replacement. Complete approved repairs according to manufacturer requirements and company standards. Know when technical escalation is appropriate and verify system operation before leaving the jobsite. Preventive Maintenance Perform thorough preventive maintenance according to company procedures. Identify developing equipment issues and communicate them clearly to customers. Document equipment condition, maintenance history, and recommended follow-up. Support maintenance-agreement retention through professional service and appropriate customer education. Customer Communication and Sales Opportunities Explain findings in understandable language and present appropriate repair, maintenance, and replacement options. Obtain customer authorization before completing chargeable work. Identify legitimate repair, replacement, indoor-air-quality, efficiency, comfort, and maintenance opportunities. Refer qualified replacement opportunities to the General Manager or designated sales resource. Support profitable growth without compromising customer trust. ServiceTitan and Documentation Complete service documentation accurately and promptly in ServiceTitan and other company systems. Record diagnosis, work performed, parts used, equipment information, authorization, recommendations, and follow-up needs. Upload required photos and supporting documentation. Identify parts or return work needed before leaving the job whenever reasonably possible. Respond promptly when incomplete documentation is returned for correction. Parts and Return Work Identify and document required parts accurately and provide sufficient information for ordering. Maintain responsibility for technical information related to return work. Coordinate with the office and Technical / Service Lead as needed to complete outstanding work. Quality and Callbacks Complete work according to company technical and quality standards. Minimize preventable callbacks and repeat visits. Participate in callback reviews involving the technician's work and accept coaching when improvement is needed. Help identify recurring technical issues and correct workmanship issues promptly when assigned. Safety, Vehicle, and Equipment Follow company safety policies and applicable regulations. Use ladders, tools, electrical testing equipment, refrigerant equipment, and PPE safely. Operate company vehicles safely and professionally and maintain vehicle cleanliness and organization. Protect company property and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, vehicle concerns, or incidents promptly. Teamwork and Training Work professionally with office staff, installers, technicians, managers, vendors, and customers. Participate in required meetings and training. Assist developing technicians within demonstrated ability. Senior Service Technicians are expected to provide greater mentoring and technical support to less-experienced employees.
