Position Summary The Mechanical Installer is responsible for the installation of HVAC ductwork, mechanical equipment, and related systems in accordance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards. This is a field-based position requiring strong trade skills, teamwork, and attention to detail. Installers ensure all systems are properly aligned, sealed, and supported while maintaining quality, production, and safety on every job. Mechanical Installers work closely with the Mechanical Foreman and HVAC Superintendent to execute daily work plans, coordinate materials, and complete assigned tasks efficiently and accurately. Key Responsibilities Installation & Fabrication Install rectangular, round, and spiral duct systems, fittings, and supports per plans and specifications. Set and secure rooftop and interior mechanical units. Install refrigerant piping and condensate drain lines per drawings and specifications (excluding system charging). Verify proper slope, insulation, and support of all drain and refrigerant lines prior to startup. Field-fit duct transitions and modify components as required. Seal and insulate ductwork in accordance with SMACNA and Title 24 standards. Operate standard sheet metal tools, power tools, and lift equipment safely. Perform field measurements and assist with layout for duct routing and unit placement. Field Coordination Review drawings, direction, and layout instructions from the Foreman or Superintendent. Communicate material needs, conflicts, and changes promptly to field leadership. Coordinate work with other trades to prevent conflicts and delays. Maintain a clean, organized work area and support jobsite housekeeping efforts. Quality & Safety Maintain high workmanship standards on all installations. Inspect duct systems to verify airtightness, sealing, and proper support. Follow all company safety procedures, use required PPE, and report hazards or incidents immediately. Participate in daily tailgate and safety meetings. Documentation & Support Assist with tracking quantities and installed footage for production tracking and billing. Record materials used and report shortages to the Foreman. Support final inspections, punch list completion, and jobsite closeout activities. Position Level Mechanical Installer Advanced installer with strong technical skill and field experience. Assists with layout, field measurements, and work planning. May direct small crews, mentor junior installers, and act as the lead installer on tasks or work areas. Supports the Mechanical Foreman but does not replace the Foreman role. Required Qualifications Prior experience in HVAC sheet metal installation or mechanical assembly (apprentice or above). Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications. Knowledge of standard installation practices, including SMACNA, Title 24, and mechanical codes. Proficient use of basic hand and power tools. Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability. Valid driver's license and dependable transportation. Work Environment / Physical Requirements This is a field-based role performed in active construction environments. The Mechanical Installer must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, work at heights or in confined spaces, and perform prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and overhead work. Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments in varying temperatures is expected. Early morning start times and occasional overtime are required.
