RESIDENTIAL HVAC INSTALLER

Iris Mechanical Inc. is hiring an experienced Residential HVAC Installer to complete residential heating and cooling installations throughout San Jose, Santa Clara, and surrounding Bay Area communities.

POSITION DETAILS

• Full-time W-2, hourly, non-exempt position
• Base pay: $33
• 38 per hour, based on experience and qualifications
• Expected schedule: 40-50 hours per week
• Compensation reviewed every six months based on performance
• Weekly hours depend on company workload and project schedules and are not guaranteed
• Overtime paid in accordance with California law

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Install residential furnaces, air handlers, evaporator coils, air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits, thermostats, and related HVAC components
• Remove and properly dispose of existing HVAC equipment
• Install refrigerant piping, condensate drains, electrical connections, low-voltage controls, equipment supports, disconnects, and accessories
• Install, modify, seal, insulate, and support residential ductwork
• Complete brazing with nitrogen flow and follow approved refrigerant-handling procedures
• Perform nitrogen pressure testing and system evacuation
• Confirm refrigerant, mechanical, electrical, drain, and control connections are complete before commissioning
• Start and commission equipment according to manufacturer specifications
• Verify heating, cooling, airflow, thermostat, condensate, and safety-control operation
• Review the accepted estimate and confirm that all sold work has been completed
• Follow approved installation plans, manufacturer instructions, applicable codes, permit requirements, and company quality standards
• Document equipment model and serial numbers, readings, completed work, and installed materials
• Take and upload all required installation and quality-control photographs to the company CRM
• Protect customers' property and maintain a clean, organized work area
• Remove equipment, packaging, nails, debris, and unused materials from the jobsite
• Explain basic system operation and maintenance requirements to the customer after installation
• Maintain assigned company vehicles, tools, equipment, and material inventory
• Notify the Project Manager immediately about scope conflicts, missing materials, unsafe conditions, customer requests, or installation problems

FLEXIBLE HVAC ASSIGNMENTS

When installation work is unavailable, the employee may be assigned residential HVAC maintenance, service support, warranty corrections, shop work, deliveries, equipment preparation, inspections, or other reasonably related HVAC duties. All hours worked on alternate assignments will be paid at no less than the employee's base hourly rate stated in the written employment offer.

COMPANY-PROVIDED SUPPORT

• Refrigerant recovery, evacuation, pressure-testing, and commissioning equipment

• Paid required training, meetings, job preparation, and compensable travel time

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Residential HVAC installation experience
• Ability to complete residential HVAC installations safely and professionally
• Current EPA Section 608 certification
• Valid California driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Authorization to work in the United States as a W-2 employee
• Knowledge of residential furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, air handlers, and ductless systems
• Experience with refrigerant piping, brazing, nitrogen pressure testing, evacuation, and system startup
• Ability to complete basic line-voltage and low-voltage HVAC connections
• Ability to read installation manuals, job scopes, equipment specifications, and basic installation plans
• Ability to use mobile applications and complete accurate job documentation
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional communication
• Ability to work independently and as part of an installation team
• Ability to safely use ladders and work in attics, crawl spaces, mechanical areas, rooftops, and outdoor conditions
• Ability to lift and move HVAC tools, materials, and equipment safely

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• EPA Section 608 Universal certification
• Lead residential HVAC installation experience
• Experience installing heat pumps and ductless mini-split systems
• Experience installing and modifying residential duct systems
• Experience with airflow testing, static-pressure measurements, and system commissioning
• Knowledge of California residential mechanical, electrical, energy, and safety requirements
• Experience using a field-service

CRM TECHNICAL SKILLS ASSESSMENT

Iris Mechanical will conduct a 30-45 minute HVAC installation skills assessment. The assessment may include written or oral questions and practical installation scenarios involving equipment placement, refrigerant piping, brazing, pressure testing, evacuation, electrical and control wiring, condensate drainage, ductwork, airflow, commissioning, safety procedures, installation documentation, and jobsite quality control. The assessment is used to determine whether the candidate can safely and independently complete residential HVAC installations according to company and manufacturer requirements.
