Vandenberg Air Force Base, Launch Operations Support Contract Principle Responsibilities:

Install, service, and perform PMs and repairs environmental-control systems in residences and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout Mount compressor and condenser units on platforms or floor, using hand tools, following blueprints or engineering specification Fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment and install evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment tools and cut and thread pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipment Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant and installs expansion and discharge valves in circuit Connects motors, compressor, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source and installs air and water filters in completed installation Inject small amounts of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation Test joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment Install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from 15 to 20 tons cooling capacity, in warehouses and small factory buildings Perform all operations, PMs or maintenance within their job group or a lower-rated job group, either permanently in an additional job group or temporarily, when trained and directed by management, IAW the

LO&SC-CBA

agreement, Article Seven, Sections 4 and 5 EDUCATION, TRAINING, SKILLS, AND

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Possess State Certification for Universal Refrigerant Handler (or ability to obtain one if apprentice level) Knowledgeable in the setup, operation and troubleshooting of Direct Digital Control Systems Ability to read and understand Electrical Schematics and blue prints Knowledge of Air Handlers and the systems they service Understand Air and Water Balancing procedure High school diploma or equivalent Must understand the use of all HVAC specialized tools and how to use all Refrigerant transfer equipment Knowledge of the National Uniform Mechanic's code Completion of an accredited HVAC trade school, or three to five field experience Apprentice level position available. Willing to train the right candidate. Payscale and apprentice level vs journeyman will be determined by experience.
