Position Summary CMC is hiring Sheet Metal Mechanics and Sheet Metal Helpers for our Lake Charles construction crews. Our sheet metal work is heavy commercial and institutional - rooftop DX, VRF systems, multiple split systems, and air distribution for colleges, schools, hospitals, and governmental buildings. We are hiring at both levels on the same crews. If you can lay out, fabricate, and hang duct on your own, come in as a Mechanic. If you are newer to the trade and want to learn it right alongside people who have been doing it for years, come in as a Helper. Tell us which one fits you and we will place you accordingly. Sheet Metal Mechanic - Responsibilities Read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, and blueprints, including submittals of equipment to be installed within the HVAC system Organize the list of material required to install the job Inspect the work site daily to identify obstructions and safety issues, and control those issues Cut, break, seal, weld, and fabricate air duct as required for each project Fabricate and install different types of air duct and fittings (black iron, galvanized metal, stainless steel, and others) Install air duct and secure it to the structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers as required Pressure test air duct systems for leaks Coordinate with other crafts on the project to eliminate obstructions and keep the work moving Direct and mentor assigned helpers on layout, fabrication, and safe work practices Sheet Metal Helper - Responsibilities Learn to read, study, and interpret job specifications, plans, blueprints, and equipment submittals Learn to organize the list of material required to install the job Inspect the work site daily for safety issues and report them to the assigned mechanic Learn to cut, break, seal, weld, and fabricate air duct as required for each project Learn to fabricate and install different types of air duct and fittings Install air duct and secure it to the structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers as required Learn the proper procedure to pressure test an air duct system for leaks Follow the direction of the assigned mechanic and work safely around other crafts Qualifications High school diploma or GED required Technical school training in sheet metal or HVAC preferred

Mechanic:

3 or more years as a sheet metal mechanic with experience in HVAC air distribution systems, or an equivalent combination of technical school and experience

Helper:

2 or more years as a sheet metal helper with experience in HVAC air distribution systems, or an equivalent combination of technical school and experience. Motivated candidates with less experience and a strong work ethic will be considered Basic math skills, with geometry and trigonometry a plus, and the ability to read a tape measure accurately Ability to work productively alongside other trades on an active jobsite Dependable attendance and a safety-first mindset Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record required for the Mechanic level Preferred Certifications OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction certification NCCER Sheet Metal certification First Aid / CPR certification TWIC card (if required by project) Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat exposure Ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, and elevated structures Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and regular use of hands and fingers Ability to lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds Ability to access construction sites, confined spaces, and elevated work areas, and to work around heavy equipment (cranes, forklifts, manlifts) and high voltage areas Must be able to wear all required PPE Work is performed on commercial, institutional, and industrial construction sites, both new ground-up construction and renovation of existing buildings Extended hours, occasional weekends, and travel may be required based on project needs What We Offer Competitive hourly pay based on experience and skill level, paid weekly, with opportunities for increases based on performance Health, dental, and vision insurance, plus voluntary short- and long-term disability coverage $25,000 life insurance policy, premium paid in full by CMC 401(k) retirement plan Paid holidays, vacation, and sick/personal leave (PTO) Typical 5-day work week: 8-hour days, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (10-hour days, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. when the project schedule requires); overtime as required per project schedule Paid travel time depending on project location Continuing education supplemental program, plus ongoing manufacturer and industry training A clear path from helper to mechanic to foreman for people who show up and do the work A supportive, experienced team environment with real opportunity for advancement Reporting Structure Sheet Metal Mechanic reports to the Sheet M tal Field Supervisor.
