Job DescriptionThe Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic provides all HVAC services at the CMI customer site in Beltsville, MD.Key Job FunctionsOperation and maintenance of the HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical systems. Provide repair, carpentry, and painting renovations, in addition to completing installations and modifications. Fabricates, assembles and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools and welding equipmentInstalls evaporator unit in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand toolsCuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and toolsCuts and threads pipe using machine-threading or hand-threading equipmentJoins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerantInstalls expansion and discharge valves in circuitConnects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power sourceInstalls air and water filters in completed installationInjects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressureObserves pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution,Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands,Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed unitsPerforms other HVAC related duties as requiredQualificationsHigh School Diploma or EquivalentAt least 5 years of HVAC Mechanic experience within a government facilityMust possess a valid HVAC license and have experience in servicing and maintaining air conditioning systems.
Good understanding of 300 to 800 ton chillers and their operations and annual PMsBackground in electrical high and low voltage A/C D/CBackground on low pressure vessels boilersBackground in plumbing repairsKnowledge of Lockout tag out/OSHA safety standardsKnowledge of fire alarm and life safety standards, to include system testingFamiliarity with life safety systems such as fire alarm, detection & suppression, standby generators, elevators etc.
Must be able to fluently read, write, speak, and understand the English languageMust be able to pass a government background checkAdditional Information
