Job Description

Role Summary The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining residential HVAC systems while delivering a high-quality customer experience. This role ensures work is completed safely, efficiently, and to company standards, while identifying opportunities to improve system performance and customer outcomes. Technicians are the front line of the customer experience, representing both technical expertise and the Asheville Oil Company family of brands, including the Smoky Mountain Heating & Air brand in every interaction. Key Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, adjustments, tune ups, system inspections, and basic repairs on HVAC systems Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems (heating, cooling, ventilation), ensuring all work meets safety, code, and company standards Work well with other technicians on larger repairs and to assist in unit replacement and changeout Provide exceptional customer service and communicating by explaining system issues, recommendations, and options Work with office to generate repair quotes and follow-up with customer on recommendations Identify opportunities to build loyalty with related services i.e. fuel and/or propane delivery Accurately document work performed, parts used, and system condition, and complete service tickets in a timely manner Maintain truck stock and ensure proper use of parts Communicate parts and/or tool needs to ensure readiness for future jobs Follow all safety procedures and company protocols, including maintaining required safety and equipment certifications and licenses Requirements Successful completion of HVAC training program, and related licenses and/or certifications EPA certification required Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills Valid driver's license with clean driving record, with ability to travel to customer sites on a regular basis Strong communication and customer service skills Ability to work independently and manage time effectively Physical Requirements This position requires someone who is able to safely perform the following tasks, with or without accommodation: Navigate crawlspaces and attics Lift, push, or pull equipment, tools and parts weighing 50 lbs or more regularly Push, pull, or maneuver heavy compressors, condensers, and duct sections Load and unload heavy materials from vehicles Climb and balance on ladders, roofing, and/or scaffolding Bend, stoop, crouch, and kneel for long periods while working on units
