Job Title:
HVAC Service Technician Job Description The HVAC Service Technician performs commercial service, maintenance, and repairs across a broad territory from Manhattan to the Hamptons. This field-based role supports retail, industrial, and other commercial facilities, with a strong emphasis on safety, high-quality workmanship, and professional customer service. You work independently in the field, managing your own schedule, service calls, and documentation while representing the company on-site with customers. Responsibilities Perform commercial HVAC/R service and preventive maintenance at customer sites across a territory spanning Manhattan to the Hamptons. Troubleshoot and repair a wide range of HVAC and refrigeration systems in retail, industrial, and other commercial facilities. Service, maintain, and repair rooftop units (RTUs), boilers, and chillers to ensure efficient and reliable operation. Conduct brazing, pipe welding, and other mechanical repairs in accordance with industry standards and safety protocols. Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose system issues and determine corrective actions. Work independently in the field while effectively managing daily routes, service calls, and associated paperwork or digital documentation. Communicate findings, repair options, and recommendations clearly and professionally to customers on-site. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, approximately once per month, to support emergency or after-hours service needs. Safely operate and maintain a company-provided take-home service van, ensuring it remains organized, stocked, and in good working condition. Use hand tools and basic HVAC tools to perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs safely and efficiently. Follow all safety guidelines and regulatory requirements, including those related to fire safety certifications and job site protocols. Collaborate with office and dispatch teams as needed to coordinate scheduling, parts, and customer communication. Essential Skills 5+ years of commercial HVAC/R service experience (7+ years of experience strongly preferred). Proven troubleshooting skills across a variety of HVAC and refrigeration systems. Hands-on experience servicing and maintaining rooftop units, boilers, and chillers. Proficiency in brazing and pipe welding for HVAC and refrigeration applications. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation. Current F60 certification. Current G60 certification. Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record and ability to pass an MVR check. Ownership of basic HVAC tools required to perform field service work. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing routes and service calls. Capability to pass a background check. Strong commitment to safety, quality workmanship, and professional customer service. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 30 certification preferred but not required. Experience covering large urban and suburban service territories, including dense city environments and outlying areas. Field service experience in commercial HVAC settings, including retail and industrial facilities. Hands-on experience with HVAC refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in commercial environments. Comfort using a variety of hand tools and service equipment in the field. Strong organizational skills to manage documentation, work orders, and daily schedules. Clear and professional communication skills when interacting with customers and internal teams. Why Work Here? Work Environment This is a field-based role with daily travel to commercial customer sites across a wide territory, from Manhattan to the Hamptons. You operate a company-provided take-home service van, which you use to travel between urban and suburban locations and to transport tools, parts, and equipment. The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, with overtime available based on workload and a rotating on-call requirement approximately once per month. You work in a variety of commercial environments, including retail and industrial facilities, servicing rooftop units, boilers, chillers, and refrigeration systems using standard HVAC hand tools and equipment. The work requires adherence to strict safety practices and the ability to perform tasks in mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other typical commercial HVAC settings. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bohemia, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
