Job Description

Job Description The High Efficiency HVAC 1 Training Program is a hands-on, skills-based course that prepares students to begin a career in the HVAC (heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems) field using National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) HVAC 1 curricula, with an understanding of new, efficient technologies such as air-source and ground-source heat pumps. The HVAC 1 instructor will teach the course following the
NCCER HVAC
Level 1 curricula as well as an additional module on heat pumps, including theory and hands-on skills. The HVAC 1 instructor will engage students in the material using discussions, interactive activities and skills practice. The instructor will also recommend supplies for purchase and coordinate with program staff and partners at LaGuardia Community College. If the instructor is not already NCCER-certified, he/she will need to become NCCER certified through LaGuardia before the course begins. Duties Deliver comprehensive classroom instruction on HVAC/R principles, electrical systems, hydraulics, plumbing, welding, automotive repair, and aircraft maintenance as applicable Facilitate hands-on training using industry-standard equipment and simulators to enhance practical skills in HVAC system installation, repair, and diagnostics Develop and update course curricula incorporating current industry standards and emerging technologies such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), Blackboard learning management systems, and online instruction tools. Assess student progress through exams, projects, and practical demonstrations; provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement Incorporate safety protocols aligned with OSHA standards into all training activities to promote a safe learning environment Collaborate with industry partners to ensure curriculum relevance and facilitate real-world learning opportunities Utilize computers and educational technologies effectively to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement Experience Proven experience working with post-secondary students in technical or vocational education settings Strong background in HVAC/R systems including air conditioning, electrical experience, mechanical knowledge, and maintenance operations Hands-on experience with manufacturing processes or construction projects is highly desirable Familiarity with course design, adult education principles, and curriculum development for technical training programs Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse cultural backgrounds in classroom or training environments Knowledge of automotive diagnostics, automotive service, welding techniques, plumbing systems, aircraft maintenance or related fields is a plus Experience with online instruction platforms such as Blackboard or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS) is preferred Certifications in OSHA safety standards and relevant technical fields are highly advantageous Join us in inspiring future technicians by sharing your expertise and passion for HVAC/R technology! Pay:
$58.00 - $65.00 per hour Expected hours: 15.0 - 30.0 per week
