Full Job Description Position Summary:
GSH is currently hiring HVAC Mechanics for various shift times for Building Operation Coverage in Syracuse, NY.
Essential Duties:
Journeyman level mechanical technician must perform routine preventive maintenance and repairs of equipment, including, but not limited to, high pressure or high temperature hot water, steam systems and auxiliary heating systems equipment, mechanical equipment rooms, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, pumps, air compressors, temperature and humidity control systems, and emergency generators. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must be able to troubleshoot and inspect equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must observe, read and interpret gauges and meters. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must utilize hand and power tools of trade. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must read and interpret technical manuals and specifications. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must be able to lift, climb, stoop, bend and stretch for long periods of time, as well as perform moderate to heavy lifting. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must be able to work independently, as well as integrate with on-site staff, communicate results, and provide written completion reporting. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician must be able to learn and operate building management system and learn and follow departmental policies in regard to different operational scenarios. Mechanic/Building Operations Technician will be responsible to respond to routine building maintenance calls, toilets not flushing, lights out, etc. Follows priority assigned by supervisor.
  • Maintains working knowledge of applicable codes, rules and regulations relating to assignments and calls any deviation to attention of supervisor.
Conducts repairs to and installation of equipment used in the operation of steam, drainage, controls and HVAC system. Ability to identify system failures and troubleshoot equipment in detail. Can work alone to solve problems, and when called upon can take the lead on a given job or project with another mechanic. Maintains shops, mechanical spaces, etc., in a clean/safe manner. Performs a variety of facility services duties. Responds to emergency problems in the facility and makes emergency repairs as needed. Provides the various skills required to maintain the systems, equipment and facilities, in a clean safe operating condition in accordance with local, state, and federal codes, rules and regulations. Performs rounds, completes PM work orders, tests, and inspections. Makes recommendations for modifications or improvements to preventive maintenance system. Operates hot water boilers, steam boilers, chillers, pumps, air handling units, water softeners, and compressors to ensure the comfort and safety of staff and visitors. Perform water treatment tests and take corrective action on a daily basis, if applicable to the facility working in. Maintains and repairs, pipes, equipment, and machinery that uses water, air, gas, oxygen, steam, steam condensate, etc. Tests, checks repairs, installs, rebuilds, lubricates, cleans such things as, steam traps, air compressors, valves, piping, boilers, etc. Performs necessary preventive maintenance as per the Preventive Maintenance program. Changes air filters, as required. Operates all tools, meters, and gauges of the trade. EQUIPMENT, or

Ability to operate equipment. A demonstrated skill in HVAC operation, maintenance repair, and basic understanding of other trades through similar on-the-job training. Possess a driver's license valid in the State of New York.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Sits, stands, bends, kneels, climbs stairs, ladders, and equipment and is able to work on heights. Some lifting of medium and/or heavy equipment and tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some exposure to extreme degrees of heat, noise, dust, and dirt areas requiring infection control. Ability to meet deadlines and makes sound decisions sometimes under stress.
