Job Description

HVAC Maintenance Technician /
Service Technician Trainee Pay:
$20-$25 per hour based on experience and demonstrated ability Grayman Climate Control is a family-owned HVAC company that has served the Pawleys Island and Georgetown area since 1988. We are looking for a dependable HVAC maintenance technician who wants to develop the skills needed to become a service technician. This is a full-time, hourly position—not commission or piece rate. We are willing to train someone with a solid mechanical background, good work habits, and a genuine interest in advancing within the HVAC trade. Schedule and On-Call Requirements Full-time, Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Additional hours may be available during busy periods. Participation in the on-call rotation is a required part of this position, but the employee will not be placed in the rotation immediately. The employee will first receive training and must demonstrate the ability to safely handle assigned calls. On-call participation may begin in a backup role before progressing to independent coverage. Time spent responding to dispatched after-hours calls is paid at time-and-a-half. Responsibilities Perform residential and light-commercial heating and air-conditioning maintenance. Inspect filters, coils, drains, electrical components, refrigerant operation, airflow, and overall system condition. Identify developing problems and clearly document findings for the customer and office. Complete digital maintenance forms, equipment information, photographs, and work-order notes. Communicate professionally with customers about the condition of their equipment. Keep company tools, tablet, vehicle, and work areas clean and organized. Ride with experienced service technicians to learn electrical, airflow, refrigerant, control, and system diagnostics. Assist service and installation crews when additional help is needed. Follow company safety procedures and ask for assistance when a task is outside the employee's current training. Advancement Into Service This position is intended to provide a path from HVAC maintenance into service work. Pay increases and additional responsibility will be based on demonstrated progress, including: Completing maintenance calls accurately and independently. Diagnosing basic electrical, drainage, airflow, and refrigerant problems. Reading wiring diagrams and using a multimeter correctly. Writing clear service notes and communicating findings to customers. Maintaining a dependable attendance and driving record. Handling basic service calls with limited assistance. Becoming qualified to participate in the on-call rotation. Advancement is based on demonstrated ability and responsibility—not sales production. Qualifications Previous HVAC, construction, mechanical, electrical, or maintenance experience is helpful but not required. EPA certification is preferred. Candidates willing to obtain certification will be considered. Valid driver's license and an insurable driving record are strongly preferred. Ability to pass a background check. Basic ability to use hand tools. Willingness to work in attics, crawlspaces, outdoors, and other normal HVAC service conditions. Dependable attendance, good communication, and a willingness to learn. Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Benefits Company-provided health insurance beginning after a 90-day probationary period. Option to upgrade the health plan, with the additional cost deducted from the employee's paycheck. 401(k) retirement plan with company match up to 3%. Three paid sick days. One week of paid vacation after one year. Two weeks of paid vacation after five years.
Paid weekday holidays:
New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Newer company vehicle fleet. Company-provided tablet and phone when required for the position. Hands-on training with experienced technicians. Opportunities to attend HVAC workshops, manufacturer training, and local classes. Established local company with year-round work. Starting pay within the listed range will depend on HVAC experience, EPA certification, driving eligibility, mechanical knowledge, and ability to perform maintenance independently. Please apply with your work history and a brief explanation of why you are interested in developing a career in HVAC service.
