Job Description

Full Time - HVAC Technician II The Blinn College District is searching for a Full Time - HVAC Technician II at our Brenham Campus. Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below: Job Summary Performs preventive maintenance and routine repairs on HVAC/R systems with moderate independence. Conducts basic troubleshooting and repairs while continuing to develop technical proficiency within the HVAC trade.
Note:
The term HVAC/R relates to Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Principal Accountabilities Perform preventative maintenance as per established preventative maintenance program, and demonstrate proactive maintenance procedures. Respond to and complete work requests for problems with the HVAC/R units or systems. Troubleshoot and make repairs to heating and direct expansion HVAC/R systems, electrical wiring related to HVAC/R equipment, soldering or welding of Freon or water lines, replacing HVAC/R components of units and replacing complete HVAC/R units. Participate in projects relating to the HVAC/R department and systems. Participate actively in established safety programs designed to provide a safe work environment. Perform other related tasks as assigned. Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications High School diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented by vocational or special training in the air conditioning, electrical, or mechanical field. Two (2) to four (4) years of progressively responsible experience maintaining and repairing HVAC/R systems. Apprentice-level state license (where applicable) Approved EPA Certified License to handle and purchase refrigerants. Valid driver's license in good standing. Minimum Competencies Performs assigned work with moderate supervision and increasing independence. Demonstrates developing diagnostic and troubleshooting skills. Knowledge of HVAC/R equipment functions, repair, and maintenance procedures. Knowledge and ability to perform preventative maintenance services as well as minor and major repair on HVAC/R equipment. Knowledge of safety procedures relating to HVAC/R standards and adherence to all safety standards and work practices as set by the Central Plant. Well organized and able to prioritize work, and able to work independently without close supervision. Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions. Ability to read, write, and communicate with co-workers, supervisors and internal and external customers. Near visual acuity, depth perception, field of vision and color vision. Ability to stoop, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawling, stretching, twisting of upper body, prolong standing on concrete floors and walking over uneven terrain, and ability to lift 50 pounds and unstable objects. Regular and punctual attendance at the workplace is required. Ability to work overtime may be required to complete a job in progress, or to handle emergency situations that may occur outside of regular work hours. Computer literacy and the ability to use Microsoft O365 products as well as Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Be able to take after hour call. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience with chill water and hot water heating and cooling units. Experience in higher education or public facilities. National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER): Core + Trade Level 1 Certification Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour or 30-hour Certification Preferred Competencies Previous experience directly related to direct expansion air conditioning and gas fired heating systems Special Notes To Applicants This is a 12 month, benefits-eligible position.
