JOB DESCRIPTION

Mechanic II Birmingham, AL Position Overview The Mechanic II will perform hands-on repair, rebuild, disassembly, inspection, troubleshooting, and reassembly of large industrial equipment and components. This role is best suited for an experienced mechanic who knows how to take equipment apart, determine what is wrong, measure components accurately, and put everything back together correctly. Company Overview The company is a more than 100-year-old industrial repair and service business focused on large equipment. Its work includes repair, rebuilds, machining, welding, fabrication, and field service for heavy industrial customers. Key Responsibilities Disassemble, inspect, clean, repair, and reassemble large industrial equipment. Work on rotary kiln gearboxes, grinding rolls, bearings, seals, trunnion rollers, thrust rollers, and drive components. Troubleshoot mechanical problems and identify causes of equipment failure. Take accurate measurements and evaluate wear, fit, alignment, and component condition. Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, Pi Tape, and other measurement tools. Read and understand dimensions, tolerances, and basic measurement conversions. Support shop-based rebuild and repair work. Assist with field service work as needed. Work safely around cranes, large components, and heavy industrial equipment. Ideal Background 10+ years of hands-on mechanical experience preferred. Strong experience repairing and rebuilding heavy industrial equipment. Experience with gearboxes, rollers, bearings, seals, and drive components. Background in cement, lime, pulp and paper, or similar heavy industry preferred. Strong ability to measure accurately and interpret measurements correctly. Comfortable working in an industrial shop environment. Able to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs. Technical training is welcomed, but a degree is not required. Kiln experience is helpful but not required. Welding experience is a plus but not required. Machining experience is a plus but not required. Must be a strong practical mechanic with good troubleshooting ability. Work Environment This is a hands-on industrial shop role working around large equipment, cranes, and heavy components. Candidates must be comfortable in a heavy industrial repair environment and able to work standard 10-hour shifts, with some Saturday or additional hours as needed.

Pay:

$31.00 - $31.50 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 60.0 per week
