These core abilities help technicians keep factory and plant machinery running safely with minimal downtime.
Core Technical Skills Mechanical aptitude:
Understanding gears, bearings, motors, pumps, and belts.
Basic electrical knowledge:
Working safely with simple circuits, relays, and voltage testing.
Fluid power basics:
Recognizing how basic pneumatic and hydraulic lines operate and leak.
Tool proficiency:
Using standard hand tools, power tools, and digital multimeters.
Documentation and Diagnostics Reading blueprints:
Interpreting schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
Routine inspections:
Spotting unusual vibrations, wear, or heat before failures happen.
Record keeping:
Logging completed work orders and tracking parts used. Workplace Safety and Soft Skills Safety protocols: Following lockout/tagout (LOTO) rules and wearing proper protective gear.
Problem-solving:
Using logical steps to find the root cause of a machine breakdown.
Communication:
Explaining equipment status clearly to other team members and shift supervisors
