Job Summary The Manufacturing Installation Mechanic is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting the installation, start-up, stabilization, and ongoing optimization of manufacturing equipment and production lines at our California facility. As the organization continues to expand manufacturing capacity and install new production equipment, this position will provide dedicated on-site mechanical expertise to ensure projects transition successfully from installation through full production. The role will work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Operations, Continuous Improvement, equipment vendors, and other technical subject matter experts. Unlike traditional maintenance roles that primarily respond to day-to-day equipment breakdowns, this position will have a strong focus on new equipment installations, commissioning, troubleshooting, equipment modifications, line performance, and optimization projects. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled industrial mechanic who understands manufacturing equipment, can troubleshoot complex mechanical issues, is comfortable working through equipment start-ups and modifications, and can independently identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, performance, and maintainability. Core Competencies & Responsibilities 1. Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies, PPE requirements, GMP requirements, and facility procedures. Maintain a strong focus on safety throughout equipment installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and modification activities. Follow all applicable Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), machine guarding, electrical safety, hot work, confined space, and other safety requirements. Identify and immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment hazards, or installation concerns. Ensure equipment modifications and installations are completed in accordance with safety requirements and operational standards. Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area throughout installation and project activities. Use tools, equipment, lifting devices, and other maintenance resources safely and appropriately. Support safe equipment start-ups, shutdowns, testing, and commissioning activities. 2. Quality & Standards S upport the installation, assembly, alignment, modification, testing, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment and production lines. Ensure newly installed equipment meets operational, quality, safety, and maintainability requirements. Troubleshoot mechanical and equipment-related issues identified during installation, start-up, validation, ramp-up, and production stabilization. Identify root causes of equipment failures, performance issues, bottlenecks, and recurring mechanical problems. Make mechanical adjustments and modifications necessary to improve equipment performance, reliability, safety, and maintainability. Support equipment changeovers, line conversions, product trials, and equipment modifications. Participate in equipment inspections, punch-list development, project closeout, and verification activities. Assist in developing preventative maintenance recommendations, troubleshooting guides, equipment standards, and technical documentation following new installations. Ensure equipment modifications and repairs are completed according to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable procedures. 3. Productivity & Operational Excellence Provide hands-on mechanical support during equipment commissioning, line validation, ramp-up, and production stabilization. Partner with Operations and Maintenance teams to optimize equipment speeds, reduce downtime, improve reliability, and increase overall line performance. Identify and permanently correct recurring mechanical issues that negatively impact production. Evaluate newly installed equipment and identify opportunities to improve equipment access, guarding, reliability, maintainability, and production efficiency. Support continuous improvement projects involving equipment performance, production flow, reliability, quality, safety, and operational efficiency. Assist with mechanical fabrication, equipment modifications, installation of components, piping, conveyors, guarding, platforms, and other production-related equipment as needed. Support equipment start-ups and ramp-up activities to help transition projects from installation to stable production. Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, reduce unplanned downtime, and improve overall equipment effectiveness. Support equipment changeovers, line conversions, trials, and modifications to minimize production interruptions. Assist Engineering and Continuous Improvement teams with equipment evaluations, process improvements, and manufacturing projects. Perform other technical, mechanical, installation, or optimization projects as assigned. 4. Communication & Teamwork Work directly with Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Continuous Improvement, equipment vendors, contractors, and technical subject matter experts during equipment installations and start-ups. Communicate equipment issues, project status, outstanding concerns, and recommended improvements to leadership. Work collaboratively with cross-functional project teams to resolve installation, commissioning, and production issues. Communicate effectively with equipment vendors and contractors regarding equipment functionality, installation requirements, troubleshooting, and modifications. Transfer equipment knowledge to plant Maintenance and Operations teams following installation and commissioning. Train or coach mechanics and equipment operators on newly installed equipment, common troubleshooting techniques, and proper equipment operation when appropriate. Maintain a professional and collaborative working relationship with employees at all levels of the organization. Provide timely updates regarding project progress, equipment concerns, delays, and technical issues. Support a culture of teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence. 5.

Technical / Job

-Specific Skills Strong industrial mechanical knowledge and hands-on troubleshooting capabilities. Demonstrated experience installing, repairing, modifying, troubleshooting, or commissioning manufacturing equipment. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including conveyors, gearboxes, motors, bearings, pumps, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, chains, sprockets, shafts, and related industrial equipment. Ability to independently troubleshoot complex mechanical problems and determine practical, sustainable solutions. Ability to use hand tools, power tools, precision measurement tools, and industrial maintenance equipment. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, layouts, schematics, and technical documentation. Experience with equipment installation, manufacturing line expansions, commissioning, or equipment start-ups strongly preferred. Welding, fabrication, machining, or mechanical modification experience preferred. Basic understanding of electrical controls, sensors, motors, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, and automated manufacturing systems preferred. Experience with high-speed manufacturing or packaging equipment strongly preferred. Ability to identify equipment design or installation issues that may affect reliability, maintenance, safety, or production performance. Ability to perform mechanical alignment, adjustments, equipment modifications, and component installation. Ability to support equipment validation, testing, punch-list completion, and project closeout. Ability to document equipment issues, modifications, troubleshooting activities, and recommended improvements.

Qualifications Education:

High school diploma or GED required.

Technical Education:

Technical school, industrial maintenance certification, mechanical apprenticeship, or equivalent technical training preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing equipment, mechanical installation, or comparable hands-on technical experience preferred.

Installation Experience:

Previous experience installing, commissioning, or starting up manufacturing equipment is highly desirable.

Industry Experience:

Manufacturing, production, packaging, food, beverage, or similar industrial environment strongly preferred.

Mechanical Skills:

Strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and problem-solving skills required.

Communication:

Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, engineers, mechanics, operators, supervisors, and plant leadership.

Project Skills:

Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Style:

Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a cross-functional project team. Physical & Environmental Requirements Standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, reaching, and working around operating manufacturing equipment. Ability to access equipment in elevated, confined, or difficult-to-reach areas when required and when permitted by applicable safety procedures. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull tools, equipment, components, and materials as required for the position. Ability to work around noise, moving machinery, production equipment, mechanical systems, and industrial environments. Required use of PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety footwear, and other PPE as required. Work may require extended hours, weekends, shutdown periods, or off-shift support based on equipment installation and start-up requirements. Occasional travel to other company manufacturing locations may be required to support projects, training, equipment evaluations, or collaboration with technical teams.

Pay Range :

$30.00-$40.00 per hour. Starting compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, skills, and business needs.
