Fire Safety Mechanics are expected to systematically maintain and proactively inspect buildings and departmental equipment; to execute a comprehensive, annual fire door inspection, test, maintenance, and deficiency repair program of all fire doors within the SHDS buildings/locations; to respond to equipment failure, power outages and building flooding; and to perform mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry and appliance work as appropriate for a generalist when required. Customer service is a significant responsibility and requires a cooperative teamwork philosophy to create a working environment that stimulates the development of new services and innovative approaches to improve existing services. Incumbents are expected to understand and enforce University policies and procedures, will be held accountable for meeting established expectations, and will be responsible for the physical integrity and accountability for all assigned material, equipment, and assets. Student Housing and Dining Services (SHDS) is a self-supporting auxiliary that provides housing and dining services to approximately 15,000 undergraduate, graduate, and students with families who live in on-campus residential facilities (university owner/managed and Public-Private-Partnerships), as well as providing residential, retail and catering dining services for the campus community. Working knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, service, repair, replace, install and/or alter doors and door components related to craft functions. Experience in basic mechanical (hydronic), electrical and plumbing maintenance and repair tasks. Knowledge and experience understanding technical data, mechanical and structural specifications, blueprints, schematics, diagrams and craft terminology. Customer service skills, which include ability to follow through on customer requests to resolve problems, answer questions, follow through on customer requests, explain processes to resolve problems with fire doors and ability to use available resources and references. Skills and ability using common hand and power tools safely and effectively, including electrical testing devices in accordance with trade shop safety regulations and procedures. Ability working successfully as part of a team, independently, or under direct supervisor to complete renovations and/or repairs. Preferred Qualifications Certification as Fire Door Inspector and/or ability to obtain this certification within 12 months of employment. Certification as asbestos and/or lead maintenance or remediation worker. Demonstrated high level experience in fire door systems installation or repair and experience in rough and/or finish carpentry including door and window installation. Demonstrated experience in basic/low-voltage electrical systems installation or repair. Demonstrated experience in rough and/or finish carpentry including door and window installation. Ability to make prompt and appropriate decisions under emergency conditions. Computer and typing skills to operate a personal computer, use email, and operate other software programs and mobile devices needed to perform job functions. Key Responsibilities 50%

Facilities Services encompass approximately 1.9 million square feet and over 100 residential, dining, and administrative buildings.
