About the Opportunity
PDS Defense, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Technician in El Segundo, CA to support the fabrication, integration, and testing of advanced spaceflight systems and support equipment. This role is ideal for experienced aerospace or manufacturing professionals who thrive in a hands-on production environment and enjoy working with complex mechanical assemblies and cutting-edge technology.
Position Responsibilities
Assemble, install, test, inspect, and troubleshoot mechanical spacecraft assemblies.
Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and written assembly, integration, and test procedures.
Perform second-party verifications and visual inspections to ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
Operate material handling equipment including forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, transportation equipment, and other ground support equipment (GSE).
Utilize a variety of machine tools including drill presses, grinders, chop saws, power tools, and hand tools.
Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, Procurement, Shipping, and Quality teams to resolve production and procedural issues.
Support additional mechanical operations as required by business needs.
Cross-train and mentor new team members.
Maintain adherence to safety, quality, and operational standards.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED.
5+ years of experience in one or more of the following:
Structures Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Electrical Assembly, Final Assembly
3+ years of experience following written and verbal work instructions.
3+ years of experience reading and interpreting:
Blueprints
Specifications
Assembly drawings
Standard operating procedures
3+ years of experience using precision measuring equipment such as:
Micrometers
Calipers
Dial indicators
3+ years of experience working with one or more of the following materials:
Adhesives, Composites, Epoxy, Fabrics, Honeycomb Core, Laminates/Plastics, Resins
Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and move throughout the workday.
Ability to frequently lift 20 pounds or more.
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered, including vocational training, associate degrees, bachelor's degrees, and related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
3+ years of experience using:
Torque wrenches, Dial indicators, Micrometers, Sheet metal brakes and shears, Structural assembly hand tools, Test equipment
3+ years of experience using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
3+ years of experience working in a Class 100,000 Clean Room environment.
5+ years of experience building component-level space products such as:
Avionics boxes, Batteries, Mechanisms, Optics, Printed circuit board assemblies, Solar arrays
5+ years of experience troubleshooting, disassembling, and repairing mechanical systems.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift and move materials weighing 20 pounds or more.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive physical tasks.
Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, and maneuver in manufacturing and production environments.
