Job Description

Carbide Industries is seeking qualified Mechanical Maintenance tradesmen for full time positions at our manufacturing facility in Louisville, KY. #JoinOptaGroup Our Louisville facility has been making Calcium Carbide for customers in the steel and fuel gas industries since 1941 and operates the only Calcium Carbide furnace in the US and Canada. We employ approximately 150 people in the state of Kentucky. Our Mechanical Maintenance team members work around the clock to provide crucial support services for the Louisville plant. Through a combination of provided training and experience, they become industrial maintenance experts in:
  • Material handling, crushing and screening machines
  • Pneumatics, hydraulics and pumping systems
  • Gearbox, fan, and motor rebuilds
  • Rigging
  • Mobile equipment operation, forklift, crane, payloader, and chain hoist
  • Hand tools, pneumatic power tools, electric power tools
  • Metal working tools such as grinders, band saw, and drill press
  • Piping systems relating to hydraulic, pneumatic and water systems
  • Cutting torch and welding equipment to cut and/or join metal components Necessary Skills & Abilities New Team Members must be available to work any shift , weekends, and holidays.
A set shift will not be determined until after an initial training period. The plant operates on a continuous basis. Individual work schedules are typically 40 hours per week. Minimum three (3) years sustained maintenance work experience in a manufacturing, industrial environment required Must be able to pass a written maintenance assessment and a hands on welding assessment (1G & 2G) Experience with gearbox rebuilds, bearing replacement and maintenance strongly desired Must be able to read and interpret prints to fabricate equipment and parts Must be able to input work orders into a computer system . Prompt and daily attendance with reliable transportation is a must. Your team members rely on you. High School diploma or equivalent The ability to regularly lift and carry twenty-five (25) pounds and move up to fifty (50) pounds on occasions. Frequently required to stand, climb stairs and ladders, use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools, or controls, to reach with hands and arms to climb and balance, to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch . Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen (pre-hire & random)
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving machinery . The successful candidate will be exposed to weather and environmental conditions inherent to the manufacturing process. Some operational areas may require the use of a respirator , work at heights , within confined spaces and in areas where hearing protection may be required. Why work here?
