Candidates must live within 30 miles of Waltham, MA Mechanical Engineer 3 Responsibilities Preventive Maintenance & Inspections Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on facility and building equipment according to established procedures and manufacturer recommendations. Conduct routine shift rounds and inspections of facility systems and equipment. Monitor and record operating conditions including temperatures, pressures, vibration levels, and flow rates. Identify potential equipment failures, safety concerns, and maintenance needs. Report equipment deficiencies to site leadership. Mechanical Engineer 3 Equipment Maintenance & Repair Troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial and industrial building systems and equipment. Assist senior technicians with more complex repairs and maintenance activities. Replace filters, inspect and replace belts and hoses, lubricate equipment, perform oil changes, and clean condensers and coils. Perform basic mechanical adjustments and equipment maintenance. Complete general building maintenance including painting, patching, fixture repairs, and minor carpentry. Perform basic plumbing repairs involving faucets, valves, and drains. Assist with basic electrical repairs such as lighting, lamp, and ballast replacement where permitted. Mechanical Engineer 3 Customer Service & Communication Communicate professionally with customers, facility occupants, vendors, and team members. Respond promptly to maintenance requests and ensure customer concerns are properly addressed. Provide updates regarding work status, anticipated completion times, and operational impacts. Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach to facility maintenance. Mechanical Engineer 3 Safety & Compliance Follow all company safety policies and procedures. Comply with OSHA regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, permit requirements, and other workplace safety standards. Properly use required PPE and maintain a safe work environment. Identify and report unsafe conditions, hazards, and compliance concerns. Participate in safety meetings and required training. Mechanical Engineer 3 Vendor & Facility Support Assist with monitoring subcontractors performing facility maintenance and services. Provide guidance regarding site procedures, safety requirements, and work locations as directed by management. Support special projects, facility improvements, and operational initiatives. Maintain clean and organized work areas, shops, and storage locations. Perform additional duties as assigned by site leadership. Mechanical Engineer 3 Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Trade school, vocational training, technical certification, or related coursework preferred. MA Refrigeration Journeyman License required. Valid driver's license required. Forklift, aerial lift, scissor lift, OSHA, or other trade certifications are a plus. Basic understanding of commercial building systems and facility maintenance practices. Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical repair techniques. Ability to safely use hand tools and small power tools. Ability to disassemble and reassemble basic building fixtures and equipment. Ability to read and interpret safety procedures, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and work orders. Ability to prepare routine reports and maintenance documentation. Strong communication skills with customers, coworkers, vendors, and management. Basic mathematical skills, including measurements, percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to troubleshoot and solve practical maintenance problems involving multiple variables.
