Mechanical Assembly Technician Job Description The Mechanical Assembly Technician installs components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames used for specialized vehicles such as aircraft refueling and vacuum trucks. This role involves hands-on mechanical assembly, use of a wide range of tools, and working from blueprints to build high-quality, reliable equipment in a production garage environment. Responsibilities Install mechanical components and equipment on heavy-duty chassis frames according to specifications and blueprints. Perform mechanical assembly and upfitting work on specialized vehicles, including aircraft refueling and vacuum trucks. Use hand tools and power tools, including torque wrenches and impact tools, to assemble and secure parts safely and accurately. Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions to ensure correct installation and assembly sequences. Verify that assembled components meet quality and safety standards before release from the bay area. Work collaboratively with a team of assemblers, coordinating tasks within a 1-2 person bay to complete builds efficiently. Maintain and properly use a personal set of tools required for daily mechanical assembly tasks. Follow shop safety procedures and best practices when working with heavy equipment, tools, and moving vehicles. Handle physically demanding tasks such as bending, squatting, and lifting components weighing between 50-100 lbs. Adapt to working conditions in a garage environment, including exposure to varying temperatures and outdoor elements. Support production schedules by working regular weekday shifts and optional overtime as needed. Essential Skills Minimum 2 years of mechanical and heavy equipment experience, including hands-on mechanical assembly work. Proven background using mechanical tools and performing assembly tasks on heavy-duty or similar equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints accurately for mechanical assembly and installation. Ownership and daily use of a personal set of mechanical tools suitable for heavy equipment assembly. Familiarity with shop tools and equipment such as torque wrenches and impact tools. Capability to bend, squat, and lift 50-100 lbs safely and repeatedly in a production environment. Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail in assembling complex equipment. Work history with references who can verify mechanical and assembly experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in mechanical assembly, upfitting, or body shop work on trucks or heavy equipment. background working with farm equipment or similar machinery. Comfort working in small teams within a bay structure, typically 1-2 assemblers per bay. Ability to follow detailed instructions and adapt to changing production needs. Reliability in maintaining consistent attendance for early morning shifts. Willingness to work optional overtime, including some Saturdays, when production requires. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in a garage environment where you may be exposed to outdoor elements and varying temperatures. You work as part of a team of approximately 6-10 assemblers, typically in bays of 1-2 assemblers per area. The standard shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of starting at 5:00 a.m. on hot days to accommodate temperature conditions. Optional overtime is available on some Saturdays. You regularly use shop tools and equipment such as torque wrenches, impact tools, and a personal set of mechanical tools. The dress code includes jeans, a T-shirt, and steel-toed boots, suitable for a hands-on, physically demanding mechanical assembly environment. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Kansas City, MO. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
