Industrial Equipment Technician - 1st Shift Great Lakes Vacuum Comstock Park, Michigan $20-$25 per hour | Full-time | First shift Build a Specialized Mechanical Career Great Lakes Vacuum is looking for a mechanically inclined Industrial Equipment Technician to rebuild and repair industrial vacuum pumps and blowers. This is hands-on, project-based work—not repetitive production-line assembly. Every rebuild presents different mechanical challenges and opportunities to troubleshoot, learn, and develop specialized skills. Industrial vacuum experience is not required. We provide paid, hands-on training for candidates who bring strong mechanical aptitude, dependability, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn. What You'll Do Disassemble industrial vacuum pumps, blowers, and related equipment Clean and inspect components for wear, damage, and failure Measure parts using precision measuring tools Identify components that require repair or replacement Replace bearings, seals, gaskets, and other mechanical components Reassemble equipment according to established procedures Troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine likely causes of failure Perform functional and performance testing on completed equipment Document findings, measurements, parts used, and completed work Prepare finished equipment for shipment Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace Work independently and collaborate with other technicians on larger projects What We're Looking For Strong mechanical aptitude and interest in how equipment works Experience using common hand and power tools Ability to follow instructions, procedures, and safety requirements Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Dependable attendance and a consistent work ethic Willingness to learn new equipment, processes, and technical skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team High school diploma or equivalent Preferred Experience Experience in one or more of the following areas is helpful but not required: Industrial maintenance or equipment repair Automotive, diesel, agricultural, or heavy-equipment repair Mechanical assembly or equipment rebuilding Pumps, compressors, blowers, or other rotating equipment Precision measuring tools Pneumatic or hydraulic systems Forklift operation Vocational or technical training Three years of related mechanical experience is preferred, but we will consider candidates with strong mechanical ability and the right attitude. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and work on your feet throughout the shift Ability to bend, reach, kneel, and work around industrial equipment Ability to safely lift and move parts and tools weighing up to 50 pounds Ability to work in a hands-on industrial shop environment Why Join Great Lakes Vacuum?
