Our work focuses on solving real manufacturing challenges—helping customers improve safety, efficiency, and repeatability on the production floor through purpose-built mechanical systems. This position involves creating accurate 3D models using Autodesk Inventor and detailed 2D production drawings to support in-house fabrication and assembly. Designs often include welded structures, pneumatic and mechanical lift-assist devices, and integrated tooling systems used in production environments. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical design skills, understands real-world manufacturing and fabrication processes, and can take a project from initial concept through design, build, and implementation on the shop floor. What You'll Be Doing Design and model custom ergonomic lift-assist systems, tooling, fixtures, and material handling equipment using Autodesk Inventor Create detailed 2D production drawings and fully defined 3D CAD models for fabrication and assembly Collaborate with Project Managers to develop custom engineered solutions based on customer production needs Review customer specifications, part handling requirements, and on-site measurements to develop functional mechanical layouts Design welded structures, mechanical assemblies, and integrated lift-assist systems Select appropriate materials based on strength, durability, and application requirements in industrial environments Determine heat treatment, coatings, and finishing requirements when applicable Select purchased components such as pneumatic cylinders, clamps, bearings, balancers, actuators, hardware, and other mechanical elements Apply GD&T standards to ensure manufacturability and proper fit-up in production Evaluate designs for real-world implementation in manufacturing and assembly environments Coordinate with controls engineering and fabrication teams throughout the project lifecycle Participate in design reviews, project planning, and cross-functional communication Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, manufacturability, and shop productivity Support projects from concept development through fabrication, assembly, testing, and installation Qualifications Experience with Autodesk Inventor is required Experience designing mechanical assemblies, welded structures, and detailed production drawings Strong understanding of GD&T principles Working knowledge of mechanical components, materials, and fabrication processes Ability to interpret customer requirements and translate them into functional mechanical designs Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, shop-oriented design mindset Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and shop personnel About Oxbow Machine Products Oxbow Machine Products is a custom engineering and fabrication company specializing in ergonomic lift-assist systems, material handling equipment, production tooling, and custom fixtures.
