Sappi Cloquet currently has a Mechanical Journeyman position open in our Maintenance Department. This position will fall under the current labor contract and could be expected to transfer to other process areas. Wages and Progression Opportunities New Mechanical Journeymen may start at $36.03/hr or $38.57/hr , depending on relevant experience. Progression opportunities are offered every six months , allowing employees to advance through the wage scale as they demonstrate skills, knowledge, and performance. A new employee starting at $36.03/hr can progress up to $43.31/hr within approximately two years through these scheduled progression steps.

$36.03/hr or $38.57/hr , based on experience Progression potential: Up to $43.31/hr Work Schedule for Newly Hired Mechanical Journeymen All newly hired Mechanical Journeymen are guaranteed to work a day shift , Monday through Friday, for their first full year of employment at Sappi. During this period, the available day‑shift schedules may include: Monday-Friday, 8-hour days Tuesday-Friday, 10-hour days Monday-Thursday, 10-hour days After completing one year of service, employees may become eligible to work the 12‑hour rotating shift only if : A rotating‑shift opening exists, and No more senior qualified employee elects to take that opening. The 12‑hour rotating shift consists of two 12‑hour days, two 12‑hour nights, followed by four days off . This schedule includes built‑in overtime , which generally results in a higher annual income . It is considered an earned opportunity because employees on the rotating shift must work nights and weekends with fewer onsite resources and are required to operate more autonomously across multiple mill areas. This schedule also provides the broadest exposure to equipment and processes, allowing Mechanical Journeymen to gain the most knowledge and better prepare for progression to higher‑level, higher‑pay positions. If a junior employee becomes the most eligible candidate for a rotating‑shift opening, they may be assigned to the rotating schedule for up to one year before they can request a return to a day schedule.

Entry requirements:

Must have an applicable (2) year technical degree or be in the process of working towards a (2) applicable degree. We will also consider candidates who have a minimum of (2) years of current experience in an industrial or military mechanical maintenance environment as a millwright, multi-skilled/craft mechanic, or a similar mechanical craft. Candidate must be willing to work in a team environment with varying work schedules with potential to include shift work. This position is 100% on-site at our Sappi Cloquet Mill in Cloquet, MN. Responsibilities Utilize mechanical knowledge to troubleshoot and repair equipment efficiently. Perform maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Assist in the installation and assembly of mechanical components. Collaborate with team members to complete projects on time and within specifications. Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to promote a secure work environment. Utilize hand and power tools to execute tasks effectively.
