Job Description

Knife River is seeking a Plant Maintenance Technician to support its construction materials operations. In this role, you will inspect, troubleshoot, and repair plant equipment, conveyors, mixers, and related systems to ensure safe, efficient production. You'll perform preventive maintenance, welding, and basic electrical/mechanical repairs while following strict safety standards. Working in a team-focused, outdoor/plant environment, you'll help minimize downtime, document work, and support continuous improvement with opportunities for training and long-term career growth. Responsibilities Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair plant equipment, conveyors, and material handling systems Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to minimize downtime Conduct welding, fabrication, and basic electrical/mechanical repairs Follow all safety, lockout/tagout, and company procedures Document maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment status Collaborate with operations staff to plan repairs and maintenance windows Assist with equipment installations and upgrades Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area Support training and mentoring of less experienced technicians Required Skills Industrial equipment maintenance Mechanical troubleshooting Preventive maintenance Welding and fabrication Basic electrical repair Hydraulic and pneumatic systems Blueprint and schematics reading Use of hand and power tools Safety and lockout/tagout procedures Equipment inspection and documentation
