This position works closely with the Shop Manager, Engineering, and purchasing to bring equipment designs from drawings through fabrication, assembly, testing, and final implementation. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled, hands-on mechanic with strong mechanical aptitude and experience building, repairing, and modifying industrial machinery, tooling, fixtures, and mechanical assemblies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Build and assemble custom machinery, equipment, fixtures, and mechanical components from engineering drawings, prints, sketches, and specifications. Proficient with arc welding
MIG / TIG
Proficient with the operation of manual milllathe equipment to produce and or modify small volume custom stainless, aluminum and polymer parts. Perform mechanical fabrication, fitting, drilling, tapping, cutting, grinding, and general shop work required to complete equipment builds. Install and align mechanical components including bearings, shafts, motors, gearboxes, pneumatic components, guarding, and related assemblies. Troubleshoot mechanical issues during equipment assembly, testing, startup, and production use. Perform precision measurements and verify components and assemblies meet required specifications and tolerances. Assist with equipment installation at customer facility. (1 - 2 times per year) Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition. Follow company safety procedures, quality requirements, and applicable standards for equipment used within a medical device manufacturing environment. Provide technical guidance and hands-on support to less experienced shop or assembly personnel as needed. Qualifications 5+ years of experience in industrial machinery assembly, machine building, mechanical fabrication, equipment repair, or a related hands-on mechanical role. Strong mechanical aptitude with demonstrated experience building or troubleshooting complex machinery. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, schematics, and engineering specifications. Experience using hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and common machine/shop equipment. Working knowledge of mechanical systems, pneumatics, motors, bearings, gearboxes, and related machine components. Ability to independently troubleshoot mechanical problems and determine appropriate repairs or modifications. Experience working with engineers or within a custom equipment/machine-building environment strongly preferred. Experience with automation equipment or machinery used in medical device, plastics, manufacturing, or other regulated industries is a plus. Education High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical school, apprenticeship, machining, mechanical, or industrial maintenance training preferred. Physical Requirements Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, and work around industrial equipment. Must be able to safely use shop tools and equipment and lift or move materials and components as required to perform the essential functions of the position.
