Job Description
Job Title:
Mechanical Technician Job Description The Mechanical Technician will support the build of a prototype autonomous vessel, focusing on structural assembly, mechanical installation, and routing of conduit and pathways to ensure the finished product meets stringent functional and quality expectations. This contract role offers a full-time day shift schedule and involves working closely with engineering teams in a dynamic environment where designs evolve and processes are refined as production scales from prototype to repeatable manufacturing. Responsibilities Perform structural assembly of the vessel, ensuring all components are aligned, secured, and meet quality standards. Install mechanical components, including brackets, panels, and hardware, following detailed drawings and schematics. Route conduit, wiring pathways, and enclosures in accordance with engineering specifications and industry best practices. Assemble complex mechanical and electro-mechanical systems using blueprints, schematics, and wire diagrams. Collaborate closely with engineering teams to resolve build issues, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems, and refine designs for improved manufacturability. Help define, document, and update repeatable assembly processes to support the transition from prototype builds to production-level manufacturing. Perform mechanical troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on hydraulic, pneumatic, and HVAC systems as needed. Utilize manual machines, such as manual lathes and press brakes, to fabricate or modify components to required tolerances. Carry out MIG welding and other welding tasks to assemble and repair structural and mechanical parts. Support field service-style tasks, including inspection, adjustment, and repair of hydraulic pumps, hydraulic lines, and related systems. Use basic electrical skills to perform wiring, panel builds, and integration of control cabinets, following wire schematics and diagrams. Document work performed, including assembly steps, modifications, and test results, to ensure accurate records and repeatability. Work safely in and around the vessel structure, including climbing and accessing confined or elevated areas, while handling materials up to 50 lbs. Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and project stakeholders to meet project timelines and quality objectives. Why Work Here? This role offers above-market pay rates on a contract basis, providing a compelling opportunity to work on cutting-edge prototyping in a growing startup environment. You will join at the ground floor of an innovative organization, contributing directly to the development of advanced autonomous systems while gaining exposure to complex engineering challenges and collaborative, cross-functional teamwork. Work Environment The position is based in a manufacturing environment focused on building a prototype autonomous vessel. You will work on a day shift schedule of approximately 40 hours per week, alongside a small team of technicians and engineering personnel, with regular collaboration with project stakeholders. The work involves climbing in and around the vessel structure, accessing tight or elevated spaces, and handling tools, equipment, and materials in an active shop setting. Dress is typical for a hands-on manufacturing and assembly environment, with appropriate safety gear and workwear required to perform mechanical, welding, and electrical tasks safely.
