Manufacturing Associate ($18-20/hr.) Job Description This role supports a busy steel manufacturing facility by packaging heavy steel plate and sheet products according to detailed customer specifications. You work on the end of a packaging line, operate material handling equipment, and use hand tools to safely prepare bundles for shipment while maintaining quality and productivity standards on the 2nd shift (10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.). Responsibilities Work at the end of the packaging line in an industrial steel manufacturing environment on your feet for the entire shift. Package steel plate and sheet products by banding large plates of steel to meet specific customer requirements. Learn and follow customer requirements for each order, including whether skidded wood runners are needed, how many bands are required, and whether waterproof paper or other materials are necessary. Package approximately 50-100 bundles of steel per day while maintaining accuracy and quality. Handle steel plate and sheet bundles weighing approximately 2,000-5,000 pounds using appropriate equipment and procedures. Move completed bundles from the end of the line by lifting, positioning, and removing them safely once packaging is complete. Use plastic banding for the majority of packaging tasks, ensuring bands are applied correctly and securely. Read and follow written work instructions for each job and communicate regularly with the team lead to clarify requirements and priorities. Operate a stacker machine to load coils, build skids, and prepare material for packaging and shipment. Use hand tools, including nail guns and staplers, to assemble skids and secure packaging materials. Operate an overhead crane to move heavy steel bundles safely within the work area. Operate a tow motor or forklift to transport materials and finished bundles as needed. Collaborate with another packager and other production team members to meet daily production and shipping schedules. Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all safety procedures and guidelines. Monitor packaging quality and report any issues with materials, equipment, or work instructions to the team lead. Essential Skills Ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial steel manufacturing environment. Ability to stand on your feet for the entire 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. shift. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift. Experience working in a fast-paced production or manufacturing environment. Experience using hand tools such as nail guns, staplers, and similar equipment. Comfort working with heavy materials and large bundles using cranes and forklifts. Ability to read and follow written work instructions and customer specifications. Strong attention to detail to ensure packaging meets all customer requirements. Reliability and consistency in attendance and performance. Steel toe boots (required personal protective equipment). Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working in a steel manufacturing environment. Experience with overhead crane operation. Experience packaging steel products or similar heavy industrial materials. Forklift or tow motor experience in a manufacturing or warehouse setting. General manufacturing, general labor, or general production experience. Familiarity with plastic banding and banding tools. Comfort working around large industrial equipment and heavy loads. Work Environment The role is based in a steel manufacturing facility that operates a flat rolled service center, producing premium sheets and slit coils of low carbon and high-strength hot rolled steel. The plant includes advanced equipment such as a stretcher-leveling cut-to-length line and uses technologies that produce flat, clean material for demanding fabrication applications. The work environment can be hot in the summer and cold in the winter, with large garage doors that open to allow semi-trucks to drive inside the plant for loading and unloading. You work on the manufacturing floor on your feet for the full 2nd shift (10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.), handling heavy steel bundles with overhead cranes, forklifts, stacker machines, and hand tools. Paid breaks are provided during the shift. Proper personal protective equipment, including steel toe boots, is required, and the environment emphasizes safety, teamwork, and efficient material handling in an active industrial setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Streetsboro, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
