Job Summary

Industrial Mechanic

We are seeking experienced Industrial Mechanics to join a leading steel manufacturing operation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This role supports the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of mechanical systems and equipment throughout a heavy industrial steel-mill environment. This is a hands-on maintenance position requiring strong mechanical troubleshooting skills and the ability to work around large-scale production machinery and equipment. Military experience in mechanical maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, heavy equipment, vehicle maintenance, or related technical fields may be highly relevant to this position.

Work Schedule

Full-Time

Rotating 8-hour shifts

Must be available to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays

Overtime may be required based on operational needs

On-site position in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Key Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and operate a broad range of mechanical systems and equipment in a heavy industrial environment

Troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, machinery, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and related production equipment

Diagnose mechanical equipment failures and perform corrective maintenance

Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on industrial machinery and mechanical systems

Inspect, adjust, repair, replace, and align mechanical components and equipment

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation

Perform equipment disassembly and reassembly as required for inspections, repairs, and component replacement

Support mechanical systems associated with production equipment, mobile equipment, cranes, and other plant operations

Troubleshoot and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including cylinders, valves, pumps, hoses, and associated components

Assist production and operating personnel with mechanical equipment and system issues as needed

Work throughout various areas of the steel mill and industrial facility

Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring equipment, and other maintenance tools to complete assigned work

Work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a larger maintenance team

Follow all company safety procedures, maintenance standards, and operational requirements

Maintain accurate records and documentation related to maintenance activities

Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required

Associates degree from a trade/technical institute required

Minimum 1 year of manufacturing, industrial, mechanical, or related technical experience

Relevant military technical experience may be considered toward experience requirements

Strong understanding of mechanical systems and troubleshooting

Ability to read and interpret mechanical prints, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings

Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems

Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills

Experience using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical maintenance equipment

Ability to diagnose equipment failures and perform corrective maintenance

Reliable attendance, punctuality, and ability to work independently

Must successfully complete required assessment test(s)

Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required

Must be able to work in a demanding industrial environment

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience in a steel mill, manufacturing facility, industrial plant, refinery, power generation facility, or similar heavy industrial environment

Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, bearings, mechanical drives, and industrial machinery

Experience performing equipment installation, alignment, rebuilds, and mechanical repairs

Experience reading mechanical prints, blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings

Experience troubleshooting cranes, mobile equipment, production machinery, or other heavy industrial equipment

Welding or fabrication experience is a plus

Millwright or industrial maintenance experience

Commercial or industrial mechanical maintenance experience

Military experience in mechanical maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, vehicle maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, or related technical specialties

Physical & Environmental Requirements

Ability to work in a heavy industrial/steel-mill environment

Work areas may be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, dusty, and noisy

Ability to work around heavy industrial machinery and production equipment

Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment, including:

Hard hat

Safety glasses

Hearing protection

Protective clothing

Safety boots with metatarsal protection

Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and work in various positions as required

Ability to lift and handle tools, equipment, and mechanical components

Ability to work independently or as part of a maintenance team

Must be able to respond to operational and maintenance needs throughout the facility
