Fann Contracting, Inc - Northern Arizona's leading heavy-civil and heavy-highway contractor - is searching for a Shop Laborer to join our maintenance team! Our family-owned 65-year company specializes in mass excavation, rock handling, underground utilities, private and public infrastructure, asphalt paving, aggregate crushing, asphalt hot plant production, and much more. Shop Laborers are typically placed in an initial probationary period so that the prospective candidate may evaluate the job duties and work required. Once established in the position, the employee may then qualify for our Mechanic Apprenticeship Program.
General Job Description:
This is an entry-level position in a heavy equipment maintenance facility. The successful candidate will be versatile, have a clean driving record, reliable transportation and a strong work ethic. General duties will range from cleaning, sweeping and grounds maintenance to parts runner, equipment washing and heavy equipment mechanics helper. Must be able to work in a dusty environment around and on heavy equipment, with frequent exposure to petroleum (diesel/oil/grease), welding and other odors, loud noises and all-weather conditions. Must have the ability to learn repair procedures for the machinery you help service, repair and/or maintain. Shop Laborers usually start at this position but have the opportunity to move up to more pay and free training. Shop Laborer duties include the following: This is a
SAFETY SENSITIVE
position. Pressure washing trucks and heavy equipment. Sweeping, mopping and dumping trash. Assisting Mechanics with large repair jobs. Grounds maintenance duties such as mowing, weeding, etc. Frequent moderate to heavy lifting. Parts Runner; familiarity with Prescott and Phoenix area parts houses a plus. Filing/clerical capable, cleaning bathrooms and offices. Crawling around and under equipment or trucks to lift parts in awkward positions.
General Requirements:
Ability to work a demanding and flexible schedule (sometimes 6 days per week). High School Diploma or GED preferred. Must have the ability to get a CDL health card for driving vehicles over 10,000GVW. Ability to drive a standard transmission would be beneficial. Basic math, writing and computer skills are required. Driver's license is required as statewide travel is sometimes necessary. Good Driving Record with no DUI within the last 3 years. Must be committed to self-improvement and exceeding daily expectations. Ability to manage changing instructions, priorities and workflow. Ability to work independently or as a member of a team. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels. Must have a great attitude. Other physical requirements include being on your feet for hours at a time, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing on equipment and/or ladders and walking on rocky or uneven ground surfaces such as slopes, mud and/or ice and snow. Must work safely but be agile and able to work in or outdoors, in any conditions and in all types of weather. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
