Job Description
Maintenance Technician / Facilities Technician - El Cajon, CA Job Description This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance and basic equipment repair within a busy aerospace manufacturing and machine shop environment. You will receive comprehensive training and work closely with senior technicians while gradually taking on more responsibility. The position requires a strong character, the ability to learn and retain new information, and a solid mechanical aptitude to support the safe and efficient operation of facility and production equipment. Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance tasks on facility and production equipment, with an initial focus on simple preventive maintenance activities. Observe equipment in operation to identify, prevent, and diagnose potential problems before they result in downtime. Dismantle devices and equipment to gain access to internal components, remove defective or worn parts, and repair or replace them as needed. Install, repair, or rebuild equipment and replace ordinary parts to maintain optimal performance. Keep machinery, equipment, and facility areas in good working condition through regular inspection and maintenance. Perform electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic system repairs on facility and production equipment, including HVAC and refrigeration systems. Read and understand general construction drawings, including plumbing, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics. Maintain and service plumbing, gas, compressed air, drains, and wastewater systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. Work with a high degree of autonomy and minimal supervision once trained, prioritizing tasks to support production needs. Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and company policies. Use hand tools and power tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, and hammers safely and effectively. Support hazmat-related duties in line with company guidelines and regulatory requirements. Safely operate company vehicles and industrial vehicles as needed for maintenance activities. Communicate promptly with appropriate personnel about any issues or concerns related to maintaining clean and safe working conditions or janitorial situations that may affect production. Shadow senior technicians on repairs and reactive maintenance to build skills and technical knowledge. Carry out other duties as assigned or directed to support maintenance and facility operations. Essential Skills Mechanically inclined with approximately 2+ years of experience in a Facilities Technician role or equivalent maintenance position. Demonstrated ability to read and write English at a level required to understand work instructions, safety procedures, and technical documentation. General mechanical aptitude and familiarity with different tools, including hand tools and power tools such as screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets, and hammers. Basic experience with electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and plumbing maintenance tasks. Ability to understand and interpret general construction drawings, including plumbing, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics. Experience performing preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities. Experience with hazmat duties in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Ability to safely operate company vehicles and industrial vehicles, and meet insurability requirements. Physical ability to perform moderate physical exertion, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, walking, and standing for considerable periods. Strong character with the ability to learn quickly, retain new information, and follow established safety procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications Exposure to HVAC and refrigeration systems and their basic maintenance or repair. Familiarity with construction or industrial environments such as aerospace manufacturing or machine shops. General knowledge of EPA-related considerations in a maintenance context. Experience with gas, air, drains, and wastewater system maintenance. California driver's license or ability to obtain one, in line with company vehicle operation requirements. Comfort working with preventive and reactive maintenance under the guidance of skilled technicians. Work Environment You will work in an aerospace manufacturing and machine shop setting that relies on well-maintained equipment and facilities to support production. The role involves moderate physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, walking, and standing for extended periods while working around machinery and industrial systems. The environment includes exposure to electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, gas, air, drains, and wastewater systems. You will use a variety of hand and power tools, and may operate company and industrial vehicles as part of daily tasks. Work is performed under established safety procedures, with a strong emphasis on maintaining clean, safe, and organized work areas. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
