Job Description
Location This position is located at 7040 North Highway 59, Merced, California, 95348. Definition Under general supervision, to perform a variety of facilities maintenance work tasks such as waste sorting/processing, litter control, heavy equipment operation and directing truck and vehicle operators to the proper unloading area; to perform other related duties, as assigned. Maintenance Worker I is the entry and training level in the Maintenance Worker series. Incumbents may be assigned to operate heavy equipment on training or relief assignments. Examples of Duties Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: Operates a variety of equipment at disposal sites to process, compact and cover refuse. Performs a variety of heavy physical work including sorting, processing, and clean-up of recyclables and waste materials. Practices dust control at disposal sites by operating a water truck. Performs general clean-up at site. Operates mowers to mow weeds and grass. Maintains time and equipment records. Performs maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Operates a computerized scale system to weigh vehicles and completes cash and credit transactions; balances daily receipts. Directs traffic and monitors unloading in the disposal and recycling areas. Screens incoming loads for hazardous materials. Process materials at the Anti-Freeze/Batteries/Oil/Paint ( ABOP ) and e-waste sites. Minimum Qualifications Experience Previous experience performing integrated waste maintenance and construction and/or other heavy physical labor is highly desirable. License Possess and maintain a valid Class "C" California driver's license. Drug and Alcohol Policy

Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal standards and/or Authority regulations. Lift and move with help objects weighing over 100 pounds. Wear a respirator, safety glasses or other protective clothing and equipment. Conduct activities on uneven surfaces under various environmental conditions. Frequently operate large, heavy equipment on uneven and/or rough terrain. Frequently drive vehicles and maintain equipment. Frequent use of depth perception, peripheral vision and color perception. Sit, stand, or walk for extended periods. Frequently lift, carry, reach, push, pull, twist and manipulate large and small objects. Occasionally kneel, bend, twist, squat, climb, balance and crawl. Occasionally climb equipment up to 14 feet in height. Frequently work around dust, dirt, refuse, strong odors and noise. Frequent use of hand-eye-foot coordination. Frequent repetitive hand and arm motion.Knowledge of:
Safe work practices. Hazardous waste characteristics and special handling techniques. Provisions of the California Vehicle Code relating to the operation of medium and heavy equipment on streets and roads. Methods, procedures, tools, and materials used in the operation and maintenance of an integrated waste facility. Operation and maintenance of a variety of medium and heavy equipment.Ability to:
Learn the methods, procedures, tools, and materials used in the operation and maintenance of an integrated waste facility. Safely operate and maintain various medium and heavy types of equipment. Learn the hazardous waste special handling techniques. Keep accurate records. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships. Maintain and make minor repairs to assigned equipment.
