Job Summary The Neighborhood Grounds & Beautification Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the appearance, cleanliness, and overall condition of the Ocean Avenue Community Benefit District through daily field operations and neighborhood stewardship. As OAA's primary field representative, the Coordinator plays a vital role in creating a neighborhood that feels welcoming, cared for, and vibrant. This position combines groundskeeping, beautification, maintenance, and community engagement to improve the public realm each day. Responsibilities include litter removal, graffiti abatement, tree basin and landscape maintenance, weeding, public space beautification, identifying maintenance concerns, and supporting special projects throughout the district. The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, notices details others often overlook, takes pride in caring for public spaces, and is able to work independently while exercising sound judgment and initiative throughout the workday. Success in this role isn't measured simply by the number of tasks completed—it's reflected in a neighborhood that feels consistently clean, cared for, and welcoming. Essential Functions and Tasks Conduct daily inspections throughout the Ocean Avenue Community Benefit District, proactively identifying opportunities to improve the neighborhood's cleanliness, appearance, and overall experience. Help create a commercial corridor that feels clean, welcoming, and well cared for by taking pride in the condition of public spaces. Exercise sound judgment to prioritize daily work based on the greatest needs of the corridor, balancing routine maintenance with emerging issues. Maintain a visible and active presence throughout the district, ensuring all areas receive regular attention. Maintain tree basins, landscaped areas, planters, and other public spaces through weeding, seasonal maintenance, debris removal, and light horticultural care. Perform graffiti abatement using approved materials and methods to help maintain an attractive streetscape. Remove litter, debris, illegal dumping, unauthorized postings, stickers, and other maintenance concerns from public spaces. Sweep sidewalks, gutters, transit stops, tree wells, and other public-facing areas as needed. Complete light painting, beautification, and placemaking projects that enhance the appearance of the neighborhood. Identify maintenance concerns before they become larger problems and communicate opportunities for improvement. Build positive and professional relationships with merchants, residents, visitors, and community partners through regular interactions in the field. Serve as a friendly, approachable, and knowledgeable representative of the Ocean Avenue Association. Observe corridor conditions with an eye toward continuous improvement, sharing ideas and recommendations that enhance the neighborhood over time. Report infrastructure issues, hazards, graffiti, illegal dumping, and recurring maintenance concerns through OAA systems and City reporting tools. Accurately document completed work activities using OAA-approved software and applications. Photograph maintenance activities and track recurring issues to support data-informed decision making. Maintain assigned equipment, tools, vehicles, and supplies in clean, safe, and working condition. Assist with community events, volunteer days, beautification projects, and other special initiatives as assigned. Perform other duties that support the cleanliness, appearance, safety, and vitality of the Ocean Avenue commercial corridor. Preferred Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, gardening, horticulture, parks maintenance, public works, facilities maintenance, custodial services, property maintenance, or a related field. Experience working independently in an outdoor environment. Familiarity with San Francisco neighborhoods and City services. Experience in customer service or community-facing roles.
