Priority Referrals of Protected Veterans Requested Company Overview & Mission Columbus House opened its doors in 1982 to provide services for men and women at least 18 years of age. Our goals quickly broadened from the mere provision of food and shelter and simple survival, to understanding and working toward overcoming the problems which cause people to become homeless. Columbus House, along with its core of loyal supporters, friends and volunteers, has remained committed to fulfilling its mission: "To serve people experiencing homelessness or at imminent risk by providing life-saving outreach, shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence. We advocate for and create affordable housing to end homelessness in our communities." Purpose Under the direction of the Facilities Manager, the Environmental Services Worker assists with the cleaning and maintenance of the various Columbus House facilities in New Haven, Wallingford and Middletown as assigned. Environmental Services Workers are mindful of the clients served by Columbus House and seek to maintain a physical environment that reflects the core values of
Trauma Informed Service:
Safety, Trustworthiness, Choice, Collaboration and empowerment. Duties and Responsibilities Clean and maintain grounds including but not limited to grass cutting, shrub pruning, snow removal and de-icing Reliably and safely transport other staff, materials, supplies and tools as required throughout the state of Connecticut Clean and maintain all interior spaces including kitchens, bathrooms, offices, dining areas, residential spaces and common areas Remove trash Complete all required documentation and reporting Participate in staff meetings as directed. Other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required High School Graduate or equivalent Able to follow directions and accept supervision Excellent organizational and time management skills with a deadline oriented mindset Basic computer skills for time keeping and email purposes Culturally competent; must possess the capacity to work within a team and foster teamwork Strong empathic skills coupled with a high degree of reliability and punctuality Valid Driver's license with a good driving record Supervised by:
Facilities Manager Schedule:
40 hours per week, Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
