Candidates will be evaluated on their ability to satisfactorily operate a NYSDOT large dump truck within two weeks of appointment. Failure to pass will result in termination. Highway Maintenance Worker 1: Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in the operation of highway construction, maintenance equipment, or other vehicles in excess of 26,000 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating with air brakes and possession of a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with DOT-specified endorsements, and two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications, in addition to the following three specific certifications: heavy dump truck, one person plowing with single or double wing, and front-end loader. Within the first two weeks of employment, applicant must satisfactorily complete NYSDOT Heavy Dump Certification or their employment will be terminated.

This amount is comprised of the base salary of $46,759 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,706, specific to this title and location. The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 is $59,475. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $48,963 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,512, specific to this title and location. The starting salary for the Highway Maintenance Worker 1 is $60,143. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $49,743 with an additional geographic pay differential of $10,400, specific to this title and location. In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $2,000 or a Downstate Adjustment of $4,000 may also apply depending on the location of the position.
