Qualifications High school diploma or GED certificate One (1) year of previous experience working in utility maintenance or related construction preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Possess a current state of Florida Class "B" CDL driver's license with Tanker Endorsement or possess a Class "B" CDL driver's license temporary permit by the Florida Department of Highway Safety & Motor Vehicles and successful licensure within 120 days of employment Summary Under the supervision of the Supervisor II, performs work at journeyman level involving skills in various maintenance and construction tasks. The Utility Mechanic I-Sellers performs mechanical work in a manual trade or as a skilled journey level worker in more than one craft involving the maintenance and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment used in the collection and treatment of wastewater. Employee is responsible for performing janitorial duties, grounds keeping, some building maintenance and general underground utility related work. Employee also performs laboring tasks requiring the use of hand tools, power tools and construction equipment with occasional use of light automotive equipment and is responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of the tools and/or equipment used. Responsibilities Drives heavy trucks with trailers and operates boom truck, tractor/loader and other equipment used in maintenance and underground utility related work. Operates power mowers, edgers, weed eaters, power saws, small and large tapping machines, tractor/loader for loading, digging and spreading dirt for a variety of projects. Works with other maintenance personnel performing preventative and constructive maintenance projects. Performs janitorial work such as sweeping, mopping, windows, vacuuming and general cleanup. Repairs and install sewer mains, reuse mains, gravity lines, reclaimed water service lines and meters. Operates television inspection truck and sewer grouting equipment. The majority of position duties are required to be performed on-site. Performs landscape restoration involving asphalt, concrete, and sod and sandblasts and paints. Maintains written logs and records. Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared or undeclared emergency. Performs other related job duties as assigned. Knowledge, skills and abilities Knowledge of tools and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of lift stations, sewer and reclaimed water pipeline construction and maintenance of buildings and grounds. Knowledge of map reading, safety rules regarding traffic control, trench excavations and cross connection control policy. Skill in various utility maintenance and construction tasks. Operate trucks/trailers, tractors, loaders, tapping machines, air and hydraulic equipment, lawn maintenance equipment and related construction equipment. Understand and follow oral and written instructions and maintain written records and logs. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with city officials and employees, the general Public and representatives of other agencies toward the accomplishment of assigned projects. Work with a variety of staff, other governmental representatives, and the public. Interact courteously with all public and maintain composure in difficult and/or stressful situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work may be performed in both in and out-of-door environments with exposure to the wind, rain, cold, heat and cramped spaces.
