This is a non-exempt position which requires unskilled and semi-skilled manual work in the performance of light and heavy manual labor for conducting various maintenance duties for various municipal departments of the City of Plantation. Employees are hired as AT WILL employees that serve at the pleasure of the City and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Cleans culverts, ditches, and swales, and builds retaining walls. Mixes concrete and replaces and repairs sidewalks throughout the City. Mixes concrete and replaces and repairs concrete walls throughout the City. Digs, grades, and sets forms for concrete work; tamps and levels concrete. Reads and understands utility locates ("mark-outs") before beginning work. May remove and repair broken asphalt within City limits. May prepare and form areas for new asphalt and/or concrete installation. Operates heavy equipment, including rollers, skid steers, and other related equipment. Installs new and replacement road signs, erects barricades, and repairs breaks and holes in street surfaces. Cleans and maintains public buildings and other municipal property, including sweeping and general upkeep. Performs semi-skilled carpentry, masonry, painting, and general maintenance of municipal buildings, equipment, and property; assists skilled trades workers as needed or directed. Performs miscellaneous pickups, deliveries, and other errands as required. Performs related duties as required and as directed. Exercises care and safety in use of equipment and tools required to complete assigned tasks and knowledge of safety rules and regulations prescribed by the city. Knowledge of cleaning methods and skill in the use and care of cleaning materials and equipment. Knowledge of the methods and tools used in cement finishing, as required by the position. Knowledge of occupational hazards associated with the trade and the proper use of safety practices. Skill in written communication, including learning and utilizing the work order process, and effective verbal communication. Skill in the use of common hand and power tools and mechanical equipment, including drills, cut-off saws, jackhammers, and similar equipment. Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and effectively. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required. Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under hot and humid conditions. Ability to understand and follow instructions and complete work assignments accurately. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, other City departments, fellow employees, supervisors, outside agencies, and the general public.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred but not required. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid State of Florida driver's license. Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) , with the appropriate weight combination endorsement, for designated Public Works divisions within a timeframe established by the Public Works Director. Must be able to obtain National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100c and 700b certifications within a timeframe established by the Public Works Director. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and requires travel between work sites. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, and other environmental elements. Supplemental Information This is a designated Recovery classification under the City's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). Employees occupying this position are required to report to work during declared emergencies and disaster recovery operations, as directed. Attendance and successful completion of the appropriate National Incident Management System (NIMS) training is required.
