POSITION GOAL
To provide assistance with maintenance services that create a safe environment for all students and employees of Volusia County Schools
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
  • Work hours and locations will change as the need arises. Perform all duties according to scheduled hours and locations as assigned. 2.
  • Assure the safety of children comes first. 3.
  • Abide by all security procedures. 4.
  • Represent Volusia County School Board (VCSB) and the Department with a positive and professional service oriented demeanor. 5.
  • Work as part of a team by establishing and maintaining working relationships that foster efficiency, productivity, quality results, and promotes cooperation with administrators, fellow employees, students, faculty and the public. 6.
  • Assist the Maintenance Technician in daily tasks. 7.
  • Work under the direction of the Maintenance Technician. 8.
  • Check and maintain assigned equipment on a daily basis. 9.
  • Report any damage/dangerous or hazardous situations related to work orders, equipment or vehicles to supervisor. 10.
  • Maintain a clean orderly work environment, which includes equipment and service vehicles. 11.
  • Acquire knowledge and abilities that will allow for future advancement to a higher "career ladder" position within the department. 12.
  • Abide by safety rules/ standards when using tools and equipment, which includes wearing required safety equipment and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements. 13.
  • Wear provided designated departmental uniform. 14.
  • Attend cross-training sessions with others in the Division and apply skills/ knowledge obtained. 15.
  • Work in high heat/ humidity and/ or cold environments. 16.
  • Perform various duties from a ladder, high lift, bucket truck or scaffold. 17.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing as assigned. 18.
  • Respond during times of disaster/ emergency, as the need arises, including evenings and weekends. 19.
  • Perform effectively in emergency situations. 20.
  • Operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505. 21.

  • Required Qualifications/Certifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent Experience in building related trades (commercial and residential), preferred Must be able to pass written and demonstration tests, upon request Must be available after working hours (on-call) as a part of the emergency and disaster team Must be available for scheduled shift work Must be able to attend and complete various on-the-job training sessions Possess a valid Florida Driver's License; if a holder of any other valid US state-issued Driver's License, agree to acquire a Florida Driver's License within thirty (30) days of employment, except in a case where accommodation is required Must be able to operate school board vehicles, when assigned, in accordance with operational procedures and School Board Policy 505 REQUIRED SKILLS Ability to fulfill all work requirements competently Ability to work alone or as part of a team Ability to work productively with little or no supervision Ability to perform tedious tasks Ability to read, comprehend and use written instructions, directions regarding precautions, maintenance and recommended use of job related chemicals, equipment, tools or products Knowledge and ability to use and maintain all types of specialty and job related tools, equipment and chemicals properly Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing Ability to work flexible hours and shifts Ability to participate in all types of emergency/ disaster clean-up Ability to report to assigned work locations Ability and desire to gain the qualifications for advancement to a higher position within the department Familiar with Volusia County area or ability to read road maps
