Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Entry level maintenance, repair, and construction work in support of municipal facilities, streets, sidewalks, rights-of-way, and stormwater infrastructure (storm drains, catch basins, swale areas, & retention ponds). Work involves manual labor, routine maintenance tasks, and operation of basic tools and equipment under close supervision. This is an essential emergency operations position.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 1
) Performs routine maintenance and repair activities for municipal buildings, grounds, streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. 2) Assists with repairs to facilities, equipment, stormwater structures, sidewalks, curbs, signs, and roadways. 3) Mows, trims, clears vegetation, and maintains public rights-of-way and drainage areas. 4) Assists with installation and repair of pipes, culverts, catch basins, inlets, signs, fencing, and related infrastructure. 5) Operates hand tools, power tools, and light equipment. 6) Performs litter removal, debris cleanup, and storm preparation and recovery activities. 7) Assists in traffic control and work-zone setup. 8) Conducts routine inspections and reports maintenance needs to supervisors. 9) Maintains tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe operating condition. 10) Responds to emergencies, severe weather events, natural disasters, and after-hours callouts. 11) Performs other job-related duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of maintenance and construction practices. Ability to perform heavy manual labor in varying weather conditions. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to safely use hand and power tools. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED. No prior maintenance experience required. However, one (1) year of experience in construction, grounds maintenance, public works, facilities maintenance, landscaping, utilities, stormwater maintenance, or related work is desirable. (A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS
Valid Florida Driver License. Must obtain within 6 months of hire: FDOT Basic Temporary Traffic Control or Flagger Certification FEMA Incident Command System, ICS-100 & ICS-700, training.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction) Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid) Ability to communicate orally. Heavy (45 pounds and over) lifting and carrying Reaching Climbing Walking Standing Kneeling Bending Stooping Throwing Driving Equipment Operation
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Works outside in various weather conditions with: dust, fumes, gases, chemicals, oils, uneven surfaces, poor lighting, vibrations Heights (up to 15 feet) Below ground level Machinery In and with moving vehicles and equipment.
